"I can not speak higher of All American Waterproofing out of Wadsworth, Ohio! I live by the Wolf Creek Tavern in Norton’s loyal Oak & for the first time since moving in late 2001/early 2002 my basement suffered a massive flood August 8, 2023. Owner Mike Johns gave me his plan & the estimate. Other companies sent young people who never actually did the work and were basically just reinstalling what I already had downstairs. Mike had a much better plan, And I feel confident that I could finish my basement and it is never going to get wet again! I now have a sump pump in each corner of the basement, the sump pumps have secondary backup pumps, they have battery back ups in case the power goes out, all the pumps and all my downspouts all the way around the house are now dumped far from the house down by the road. The foreman Pete, his journeyman, 3rd year Apprentice did a fantastic job! Extremely friendly and professional! I felt completely comfortable Leaving to go to the store or to get f"

"We needed our sump pumps replacing immediately. Ray's quote was extremely reasonable whereas other chain companies wanted to obviously excessively overcharge us. Ray showed up the next morning and after assessing both areas discovered our septic pump was not working! While Ray replaced the sump pumps, we ran out and picked up everything needed to replace the septic pump and r3ay installed while he was here at no additional cost. He is thorough and honest and would highly recommend him. Small business is always the way to go."

"Our project included complete rebuild of our foundation and waterproofing. We felt the value for the project was great. We can't yet judge how well the work will stand up to the elements because they just finished it, but I can speak about other impressions I gathered about the crews and how they work. One thing that bothered us was the lack of good communication from a supervisor to us, as consumers. Whatever communication we had, it was because we had to pursue it and find out what's next. Of course, with both my husband and I working, it was a bit difficult to have that on a consistent basis, but I felt that at some critical points in the project, such communication should have been initiated by the project manager. Another thing that bothered me was that when the job was done there was no formal final inspection by the owner of the company and hopefully a specialist who oversaw the whole project. This to me was unacceptable. Sure the owner of the company was going to come collect the payment, but it was not in the context of "we're setting an appointment with you to go over the finished project and inspect and make sure everything is fine" but rather "we're coming to collect the check." When you have your foundation of your house rebuilt entirely, you want to feel assured that there is an inspection at the end, but also during the various stages of the work. I don't think there was ever such kind of inspection performed. There were days when I came back from work and I would walk down the basement (when the walls were not completely up yet) to find big gaping spaces that had not been covered properly, and I had to drag in stools and climb up and try to attach the falling tarp to the rickety little nails and worn out pieces of duck-tape they flimsily attached the tarp. The cherry on top came later when the walls were completely up, the windows weren't yet in place, and they had left for the day without covering the open spaces for the windows... I had to cut out pieces of plastic and try to cover the openings on my own. That was a big NO. Also big NO was the amount of trash I would find every day around the work site. And I'm talking about personal trash: coffee cups, wrappers from sandwiches, empty cans of soda, empty paper bags... I had to walk around picking up trash, almost every day. I also felt that our yard was completely wrecked. Yes, we expected that the grass would suffer when you have huge equipment sitting out there, but I was expecting a more careful removal of building debris. We were disappointed that at the finish of the job, they did not clean the basement drain (which was completely clogged with mortar and pebbles, which had fallen down below) and which we discovered the next day when we installed a new utility sink- the drain backed up and it was a mess. Yes, they came and fixed it, but shouldn't they have checked that the drain is free of debris and that is not clogged? Mortar debris also was throughout the basement floor."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Wooster, OH

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
