"Within an hour of putting in a request for quotes, Dan called and by late afternoon, he was at my home to review the tasks and give a quote. We settled on a date for him to complete the project and he did so at a very reasonable price. He did a fantastic job and cleaned up, leaving nothing to show he was here except for the exceptionally perfect job on all my tasks. He is now my go-to handyman."

"Never judge a book by its cover WRONG Lesson learned once more! I reached out to HomeAdvisor for drywall/handyman help. Received a call within minutes from Chris and set an appointment for later that afternoon. Wonderful! We walked through my (rental) home and discussed what was needed. I got a verbal that it would be $1,200, easy. I text the to-do list to him, clearly indicating the work we discussed. Done, deal. I will buy the toilets and most material! The work was done, plus more! Great, right! Well, you think that would be a good thing until being presented with a $3,300 bill (now in writing) on the last day! Chris decided to change it from a flat rate to Per Hour rate! (Ha! I never would hire a handyman at Per Hour rate!) This guy also did the following to the home, when we NEVER discussed or agreed to do any of this. (Keep reading because the nasty stuff is at the end!) - He changed out 34 lightbulbs, (keep in mind, the house was already well- lit, he just thought they were old and tried charging me $10 per bulb!) - He changed out the electrical outlets to include the USB ports, (again, NEVER discussed this!) - He changed out a ceiling fan, (that he got from his garage. He installed it than charged for the product and labor! Never told or asked him to do this!) - He threw out a shower rod and bought 2 brand new ones, (we NEVER discussed this!) - I had fixed 2 cabinet doors from the kitchen and bathroom, keep in mind, it is merely 4 screws to put them back on, which I was going to do, but Chris decides to screw them back on himself and attempt to charge me $35 each! Seventy bucks for 4 screws! Extortion! - He saw lots of little holes in the walls (from nails/screws). He took it up himself to fill them in. Well, that was nice of him, because we never discussed doing this, however, not only did he fill in the tiny holes, he sprayed over all of them with that plaster texture stuff. Now, the whole house looks like patch work and needs to be repainted! There is so much more, but I honestly do not want to waste more time writing it. He just created more work and tried to charge for work we NEVER DISCUSSED! .....And it would have been left at that, if not for the cherry on top which happened next. Speaking of waste, because I made him reduce his bill, he decided to take the biggest, smelliest diarrhea crap in BOTH of the new toilets! Leaving the house smelling like the inside of his rotting intestines! Leaving his feces-filled toilet paper OUTSIDE of the toilet for me to pick up! Still, after 15 flushes, it was not going down and I prayed for it to not over flow! I guess that is what I get for leaving him a key and not hovering over him while he was there! His defense was that it was his son. Well, MoFo, YOU had a key to the house, YOU were the last one in the home! There is no way YOU would have been able to leave that home without doing a final walk thru....and gagging on the putrid smell that was once festering inside you, to which you decide to release in MY HOME, polluting the air I breath! DIGUSTING! FIVE STAR REVIEW and 20 YEARS IN SERVICE ! Not only is that definitely not what I experienced, here is 2 minutes of research: - Chris Madeo is not a licensed contractor, (even though he will tell you to your face that he is before the job, then after the job, he is not licensed). - Charles Madeo is a licensed contractor running his business Cam Wal with HomeAdvisor. Chris operates under this. You are Welcome!"

"It did not go well at all!! I needed to have a house I just bought and had just been painted and cleaned for my arrival the next day 2/5/25. I contacted some of the referrals from Angi. I chose Davina Home Services. Javier agreed his team would clean the morning of 2/4/25. The cost was $250 and he would call me for credit card payment when they were done. They only needed to vacuum, clean the floors, clean bathrooms, clean behind the refrigerator, and wipe out cabinets. They did not need to clean the outside of cabinets, walls, or baseboards as they were freshly painted. Also, they were to clean ceiling fans and leave on the master bedroom and living room fans. They were also to sweep the garage. Javier called me and said his team was done and they left the ceiling fans on as I had asked and did all the cleaning. I paid him over the phone with my credit card $250. When I arrived the next day, it was clear Javier had not been there to check his team's work. The cabinets still had some debris in them, the floor was still dirty, the stovetop and counters were still dusty, the fridge was not cleaned behind and garage was not swept, and the ceiling fan was not left on as Javier told me it was. I took pictures and texted them to Javier. I let him know I was not satisfied with the work and requested a $100 refund. He never offered to come out to check his team's work or to send them out to finish the work. He said his team had pictures of what they did but never sent me copies. I told him I was contacting Angi and he said he already did and was waiting to hear what you guys wanted him to do. I have contacted Javier several times and have not heard back!"

Popcorn ceiling removal can become expensive once asbestos testing or abatement is involved, so weigh both the short- and long-term benefits before you proceed. In the short term, you’ll enjoy a brighter, cleaner ceiling. In the long term, buyers and real estate agents view a smooth ceiling as one less update to tackle. The time, energy, and cost you invest now can pay off at closing.
Aesthetic concerns drive most popcorn ceiling projects, but timing also plays a crucial role. If the texture is cracking, stained, or likely to contain asbestos, schedule removal sooner rather than later. Tackling the job before you move in—or before major furniture arrives—saves hours of prep and cleanup. If asbestos is present, hire certified abatement professionals first; disturbing the material without proper containment increases both risk and cost.
Once the texture is scraped off, imperfections become obvious—think nail pops, seams, and old stains. Plan on patching, sanding, priming, and either painting or applying a new texture to get a polished finish. A smooth coat of drywall compound followed by paint delivers the clean, modern look most homeowners want, but knockdown or orange-peel textures can hide minor flaws if you prefer a little forgiveness.
If testing confirms asbestos, bring in a licensed abatement contractor right away. These specialists follow EPA guidelines for sealing off the space, removing the material, and disposing of it at an approved facility. Don’t scrape, sand, or even drill a hole—the fibers released can cause serious health problems. A certified crew protects your family, ensures the project is conducted legally, and leaves you with a clean canvas for refinishing once clearance tests confirm the area is safe.
