"I did not hire Knee s electrical service because I was quoted for a 22 KW generator at $11,000. I had a suspicion that I did not really need that much for what I was wanting but planned to get three quotes before I hired someone for the project. There were two men sent out to my home. They stood in the kitchen and plugged information into a tablet with a generator sizing tool on it and told me I needed the 22 kw. They did not look around the house, or explain anything to me about how the process worked. I ended up going with another company who was very communicative and informative and purchased a 16 kw generator and with installation and everything it was $6570.68. I feel comfortable with my decision to go with the other company and would not recommend Knee s electrical service for a whole home generator installation."

"Joe is both knowledgeable and willing to share his knowledge while he works.  I had to renovate an existing hot tub system.  When he was not entirely sure of the problem, he went the extra mile to contact the manufacturer of the heater (exterior) directly just to be sure he would not damage this system that he was unfamiliar with.  He will find the solution if he doesn't already know it.  That research was on his own time.  Furthermore, he is transparent and doesn't beat around the bush.  He is excellent.  He had better never retire or I'm in trouble.
This is your guy.
Very fair prices!

"Brandon was the best one for the job! He helped in every stage of remodeling process on the electrical aspects. He would give his best opinion and explain it thoroughly, but let you make the decision. Very professional and he does amazing, and very clean work. I believe all of our employees and customers will love the work that he has done for us."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Warren, IN

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
