"Aaron called ten minutes before arriving at the time promised. He listened when i described and showed the reasons why his company was called. He went into the attic vial a small closet opening. He got ladders from his truck to remove what he found in two locations and put mesh over one vent as well as nailing up a drooping soffit on the 2nd story to prevent reoccurance. When he was finished, he explained what he found and the reason the birds got in."

"I'm very happy with Green Pest. The mosquito control was amazing, last summer I didn't get one bite--the summer before I couldn't go in my back yard without getting bitten"

"There was a roach problem in the apartment building. I contacted Alleviation Pest about the problem. They were prompt to assess the problem. Through a series of sprays, due to the huge pest problem, there has been a significant decrease of the pest. I appreciate their promptness, professionalism and effectiveness. As a result, I'd recommend them and would use them again."

"I would give Francisco 10 stars for reliability, professionalism and thoroughness. He did an excellent job of baiting my condo, sealing all the holes he could find and putting my mind at ease. He took the time to explain the process and although I know there are no guarantees in a multi home building, I definitely feel that he did his best to address my mice problem. Hopefully the building owners will do their part but I will be utilizing Alpha Pest whenever I need pest control services."

"The first 2 quarterly treatments went great. They were responsive, punctual and professional. I noticed immediate effects of their treatments. They came once between the 2 treatments when I informed them spotting of a cockroach. That, too, went well and I hadn't seen any cockroaches after that. The A ratings reflected those times of service. Close to the scheduling of the third quarterly treatment, I sent an e-mail to the service provider right before Thanksgiving via Angie's List email service letting them know spotting of a different breed of cockroach (perhaps the German type; the previous ones were Asians). I didn't hear from them after that which was odd. Usually, they were pretty good at responding to my e-mails. I forgot about that issue until the holidays were over and I still hadn't heard from the service provider. A couple of days ago, I called their numbers (both local and toll free) and both were no longer in service. This raised alarm bells. I also noticed on AL's webpage that this service provider was deficient in their contract with AL. As of today, I don't see this service provider listed on AL anymore. I lost half of my deal value since they still owe me 2 service treatments. I plan to call AL to find if there is any recourse to recover part of my purchase.

Updated on 3/23/2016,

After a few days of posting the above review and following up with Angie's List, I heard back from the provider and was able to schedule the third treatment per the contract. The technician who arrived was able to get the pest control application done quickly. I let him know that the contact phone number that was provided on Angie's List was no longer operational. It appeared they may have had some personnel changes that may have affected their lack of response to my earlier attempts to schedule an appointment. The technician promised that he would let the office management know of the communication issues and apologized for the inconvenience. I am revising my rating and giving the provider an overall B."

"I woke up one Sunday morning and found a large sparrow hanging out in my dining room. When I called Russ Termite & Pest Control, the company contact calmed me down and told me to open the windows so that the bird could fly out. I was dubious but followed his instructions. The company rep was right -- the bird flew out in less than 2 minutes. I'm impressed, because instead of charging me the weekend rate, the company told me how to solve the problem. Can I give the company 10 stars?"

"They were very professional and did the job in a timely manner.  Our terra cotta liner was 50 years old which needed to be changed to a stainless steel liner. They were able to give us a good price.  The job was completed in two days.  I appreciated Oscar working with our time line.  Excellent company!

FAQs for bird and bat pest control service projects in Washington, DC

Bats slip through gaps as small as 1/4 inch, so your best defense is a thorough seal-up and a few simple habit tweaks. Start by caulking or screening every crack around chimneys, eaves, and vents. Swap dim porch bulbs for brighter LEDs or motion lights (bats dislike the glare), and consider an ultrasonic deterrent if they keep circling.

Finally, remove easy snacks—cover standing water and skip the nighttime bird-feeder refills. These steps go a long way toward keeping your home bat-free.

Standard homeowners’ insurance rarely pays for bat removal because insurers view it as routine maintenance. You might get partial help for guano cleanup or related repairs, but that varies by policy. Review your insurance policy carefully and contact your provider for a definitive explanation. Securing all entry points remains the homeowner’s responsibility to prevent future incursions.

The sweet spot for bat exclusion is late summer through spring. That window keeps you inside most state rules and protects baby bats that haven’t learned to fly yet. Removal activities are conducted when bats are less active, with some states permitting work from August through May and others ceasing removal in March. Consult a qualified bat removal specialist to confirm the valid timeframe for your area.

Spotting a dead bat can be unsettling, but a calm, careful approach keeps everyone safe. First, call your state wildlife office to report the find and ask about local rules. Snap a quick photo from a distance, then—wearing disposable gloves—place the bat in a sealed plastic bag for disposal as directed.

Wipe down nearby surfaces with disinfectant, wash your hands thoroughly, and schedule a pest-control pro to make sure no live bats (or harmful guano) remain hidden in the house.
