"I was given a window between 1pm and 2pm for an estimate.  The guy showed up almost an hour late.  After determining what was leaking he went to home depot to get the replacement part.  I still had not been given an estimate.  
He gets back and replaces the part maybe 45mins at home depot and 15 mins at my house, then has no idea what to charge me.  Here is where I realize I'm in trouble.  He waits about an hour to talk to his boss and see what the charge would be, so much for getting an estimate before hand.  He finally gets ahold of the guy then tells me its $185.  I asked him if that included the 10% angies list discount listed on angies list and he shrugs and says "uh, I think so", right.  
So basically I feel like a dope for not demanding an estimate before he booked it out to the store, but still that's a little ridiculous.  I won't be using McDonah again.
The work however was fine, he left it in better condition then it was.

"After a crazy rainstorm, we took in water in our basement on one side, and spotted a slow leak in the foundation wall near our sump pump. We were worried there were major issues in our partially-finished basement, and we'd only owned the house for a couple of months. We wanted to nip it in the bud right away, so we looked to Angie's list. Basement Waterproofing Solutions had great reviews, so we called them. Brian came for an estimate and couldn't have been more friendly. I mentioned that my dad was a carpenter and would hopefully be coming for a visit soon, and when I questioned him his opinion on if we should have our downspouts redirected (we still have the old school kind that go directly into the sewer), he said I should just have my dad do it since it would only take him a few minutes, and he'd have to charge me if they did it. Talk about honesty! You could tell he was more interested in fixing our direct issues than trying to sell us some other services or anything.
Turns out we had 2 cracks that he was able to spot right away from looking at the outside where our foundation meets the ground. We knew basement work could be expensive, so I breathed a sigh of relief when the estimate was $358. We hired them for the work and were very pleased. The guys that came were also very friendly and worked quickly. We knew we'd have to lose a little drywall, but they really limited what they had to pull out to right around the cracks. In the end we paid exactly what the estimate said.
There haven't been any huge storms since we had the repairs, but in the small rains we've had since there have been no signs of any issues with the repairs. But with the lifetime guarantee of their work that they give you, I know if we ever did have an issue we'll just have to call. Everyone at this company obviously takes pride in their business and cares about their work, which we couldn't appreciate more. And with reasonable prices, what more could you ask for? I hope we don't have any more issues in our basement but you never know with an older home, so if we do we certainly know who we'll call."

"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."
