"Exceeded expectations! The driveway looks great plus they repaired the adjacent disturbed lawn and sprinkler system as well. They were also very contentious of the dust that was going to be generated when cutting the joints that they let me know of a side window that was open. I would definitely hire them again and you will love the work they do!"

"I think the finishing around the window could've been a little bit nicer. Our basement isn't really finished. It still the brick wall, cement wall.It just seems like it could've been finished off more than it was. They were quick. I didn't see a lot of debris or anything. I know sawing through cement can be messy but they seemed to be very clean and efficient. They were out here pretty quick. We checked around and they were very reasonable."

"Everyone I worked with on deciding what to do with my damaged sidewalk was professional, helpful, and really listened to what I needed. The crew that removed the old broken sidewalk and the crew that made me a beautiful new sidewalk and patio were excellent. Amy in the office was so helpful. Jeff did a great job in helping me with what to do. Zack who put my gate back together better than it was. The sidewalk and patio are so much better than I had imagined. I would hire DRMP again in a heartbeat. Which is funny because I didn't want concrete in the beginning - but I love it."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Watertown, MN

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
