"Work went smoothly. Originally was going to put sheet vinyl over existing floor. But with the size of the refrigerator, the workers had to pull the old flooring out. They did all that with no additional cost."

"I was shopping around for carpet and ended up going to Sam's after a contractor recommended them to me.  I went down to their showroom and found the exact carpet that I wanted.  I had found the same carpet at 2 bigger carpet stores but Sam's had it at 1/2 the price.  The carpet was installed in our home a few days later and it looks great.  I'm happy with the carpet and the installation.  "

"I'm very pleased with his work. The room looks great...you can't tell that the carpet had been pulled up, and the wires are very unobtrusive. I would definitely use Randy's services again, and highly recommend him."

"While the people at the Abbey store were nice and very helpful, I can't recommend the company for anything other than simple jobs with easy to install carpet. I ordered an expensive Fabrica carpet that had an embedded floral pattern implemented as a raised regions with a slightly darker color. This makes for a challenging seaming job requiring an accurate pattern match and perfect edges. The team installed the carpet and complained about how the end of the roll had been damaged during shipping ( after they had finished the install of course ). This left a seam across the entire master bedroom 4 ft from the wall. The seam varied from perfect in the closet area to mediocre on one side of the room and terrible in the most visible area when walking into the room. The installers gave me 3 "excuses" for this 1) damaged carpet, 2) estimator should have specified a longer roll so there would be no seam, 3) Over time I would stop noticing it so it was fine.  Also during the install they damaged paint on the doorway to the closets by dragging the rough backing against the molding ( trivial to fix of course ). More troubling was the custom curved molding under the bath room vanity seating area surface. They broke it in half by running into it during the install. The owner came out a couple of weeks later and agreed the seam was unacceptable and we scheduled a repair visit about 3 weeks out, and he indicated they would bring out a replacement board.  We disassembled the bedroom again and the same 2 installers showed up to fix things. The board they brought would never have worked ( unable to be formed to the curvature ). The asked me if I had received the replacement carpet piece for the fix, I said I assumed they would be bringing it. Calls to the owner were to no avail as he as on a flight somewhere. Instead of doing the right thing they just pulled up the carpet in the worst area and shaved 1/8" worth from the damaged side and stitched it back together. When they had finished and showed me the result, it was better than before but still inferior to the perfect seam in the closet. They also failed to fix the mediocre area commenting that they were only told to fix the worst spot. While I'm willing to give someone a chance to fix things, they only get one chance especially when the visits are so disruptive. The broken board remains unfixed and I've engaged someone with a wood shop to custom fabricate the piece. As you can imagine, I regret my choice of Abbey Carpets and perhaps reading this review will save you the same fate.  <br />"

"The guys at Van Briggle Floors were a joy to work with and did an outstanding job. We visited several other showrooms and received quotes from 3 including Van Briggle Floors. We decided to go with them based on their outstanding reputation (not only on Angie's list but with other contractors in the area), years of experience and the fact we got a really good feeling from our dealings with both Bob Van Briggle, the owner, and Bill Abraham, who managed our project. <br /> On the first day of the installation both Bob and Bill were here to make sure everything was ready to go and the floor was prepped properly. Its my understanding Bob does the same with each of his clients which I think speaks volumes about the quality of work done. The installation of the flooring was 1st class and both my wife and I love our new floor. <br /> I would highly recommend Van Briggle Floors. In fact we are planning to have wood flooring installed in a couple of other areas in our home and are looking forward to working with Bob and Bill again. <br />"

"These people absolutely knocked themselves out to meet my needs. <br /> I needed to replace an old hall runner rug in time for the visit of some friends. I first got to Bittick's on a Saturday less than two hours before closing, and needed the new rug a week later. I had very specific size, texture, and color requirements, but it is difficult for me to make color decisions based on samples in the store. The rug had to be made from carpeting which had to be ordered, so the time frame was very tight. I needed someone to quickly narrow down the choices for me from the vast array of what was on display in the store. <br /> Mark immediately tuned in to what my needs were, and gave his full attention to helping me reach a quick decision, even though this was a relatively small amount of business for them. He quickly zeroed in on the brand of carpeting that could be delivered in time, and explained all the other options, some of which I'd never heard of. I had a really hard time distinguishing among the various shades that were available of the color I wanted, and the more I tried the more confused I became. Thankfully, Stephanie had the ability to understand what I was looking for and to make this judgment. When I walked out of the store, I was amazed to realize that this had all gotten done with 3/4 hr. still left until closing. <br /> The following Monday they called to say that the specific carpeting chosen was out of stock at the manufacturer. I had no time to revisit their store, and because I had so much confidence in them, I authorized them to pick something else. This raised the cost by $100. When I went to pick up the new rug, I found that Mark had been able to work things out so that the additional cost was only $40 more. <br />"

"The gentleman who came to do the estimate was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Our stairs turn twice, and he was able to explain the different options and the benefits of each. He also explained how we could create a small area rug from the same carpet, which we had not thought of. The gentlemen who installed were prompt, neat, professional, and good. The entire process was done in less than 3 hours."

"Brian came out late Friday afternoon at the end (I am sure) of a long work week. He showed up as scheduled and went right to work. I had to change my original appointment and had no problems contacting nor rescheduling. Carpets look good! I prefer supporting family owned businesses and would not hesitate to recommend Castles Home Services. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Watsonville, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
