"First of all, Jaymey put us into his schedule though he was very busy. That was greatly appreciated because we needed it done at a particular time when we could get the waterproofing vendor to do their part. <br /> <br />Jaymey did a great job so that The bathroom looked like new. He even made the floor tiles look as though they were original. He has great attention to detail and does a great job with everything he does. It is very nice to have a contractor who doesn't only do what you request but can see additional work that is needed and suggest ways to fix. He doesn't apply pressure but offers good suggestions. <br /> <br />I have used him before to renovate my basement, replace windows, ... and would use him again anytime. <br />"

"We worked with Alicia at St Croix Valley Cabinetry. She was a joy to work with! <br /> Alicia came out to our house as the framing was being completed. She toured our house to get an idea of existing style and listened to our ideas.  Alicia had great suggestions for placement of pieces like the bookcase, what form the entertainment center would take, addition of a dry bar and how to cover an exposed ceiling beam to match.  She took measurements and had a proposal to us within a week.  A two hour visit to their shop helped us choose final design options, door styles, wood and stain options, and all the final details.  Seeing options in their show room really helped us narrow down choices quickly. <br /> After a few tweaks here and there, she had a final proposal to us and then coordinated build schedule and delivery with our remodeler.  The cabinets were completed and delivered on time. <br /> We are ecstatic with the look that these custom cabinets bring to our newly remodeled basement. The entertainment center and book case are the focal point of the family room. The dry bar is a great addition and the beam box is a unique touch to finish it all off. <br /> The quality of construction and craftsmanship is superb.  Superior quality and great fit and finish throughout. <br /> St Croix Valley Cabinetry delivered an exceptional product and Alicia made the process enjoyable with her knowledge, ideas, great customer service, and bubbly personality. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Excellent. Work was performed timely and the way we wanted it. We have a smaller cabin and needed utilities installed in a smaller closet. We also had a complete cabin remodel. Work was professional and completed on time."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Waubun, MN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
