"We needed a complete tear down and full new construction for an addition to our home. This remodel was a vision I had and David made it happen. Time frame, the line up of other contractors , and finished project were all amazing. I highly recommend Creekside for any type of construction."

"Warm and dry did great work on my older basement. They fixed the cracks and bowing in the basement walls. Now my basement is waterproof and my family can enjoy the extra living space. Highly recommend"

"My service tech, Jordan Foy, called promptly in the morning and arrived right on schedule. He was friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job installing my sump pump and the underground line. He made sure I approved of what he was going to do each step of the way. He was also very nice to my golden retriever puppy who wanted to be his assistant. I will be using Ayers Basement Systems again for additional work on my basement next spring."

"Rough framing went pretty well. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Initial electrical work was a give and take, dimmer switches that did not work properly, until the third set caused a lot of concern. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Venting was good with repeated requests for a low return air vent finally completed. Vents at outside wall were not sealed. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Plumbing is done. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Dry Wall work was poor in places not fixed by finisher. Dry wall hangers hid trash under stair well they enclosed, instead of removing to garbage. Fixed by carpenter. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Tile work very good. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Initially carpet and padding quote was not honored properly, but was eventually settled OK. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Finished carpentry, went slowly, working part days, but looks very good. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />With 90 percent of money paid, progress was very slow. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Contractor Cass Gajewski needs to check on subcontractors after each phase and stay on problems and maintain quality. <br /> <br />"

"The first experience we had with Don was amazing.  He came in and converted out garage in to a step down living room.  His attention to detail was incredible.  The following year Don came in and remodeled our partially finished basement and put in a full bathroom, drop ceiling, and finished off an office.  My family then purchased a couple of cabins on Otsego Lake and we hired Don to gut them and remodel them completely.  From start to finish, you will not find another contractor that is as thorough as he is.  His ability to do just about anything has made him my "go to man" when it comes to remodel projects.  We will be contacting him again in the next couple of months to have him do another addition on our home as this man is an absolute magician when it comes to carpentry!   Nobody else will ever do work for us again and he comes highly recommended to anyone who has ever seen what he has done to our home already. <br />"

"He was friendly and very professional, explained what he would need to do and completed the work in a very timely manner. Upon talking with him I found out he also could do some repairs I needed done so he gave me an explanation of what material he would use, the cost for those and the repairs- and completed those while he was here. I am completely satisfied.amd would recommend him to anyone.. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Weston, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
