"We initially planned to install gravel, but Derek took the time to recommend Zoysia grass instead, explaining it would be more suitable for our shaded backyard and more cost-effective in the long run. I really appreciated that he didn’t just move forward with the more expensive option, but instead provided thoughtful, honest guidance that was in our best interest. In addition to installing the Zoysia, the team also added river rocks for a drainage area and completed minor grading and resloping. They were very professional, efficient, and completed all the work within a single day. The pricing was very reasonable, and the quality of work exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality outdoor services. "

"Awful company. Do not hire them. They said that they could repipe our condominiums and it was a disaster. They claim on their website that they keep the spaces clean but they pulled random subs into the job that damaged many properties. They only are qualified to do small homes. Their crews acted unprofessionally and the entire experience with them was a complete nightmare. They charged way too much for the horrible quality job they did in our spaces and I do not wish the experience on anyone else. Stay away from this company."

"Mr. Rooter unethically dishonest the technician michael and his assistant had come to repair the main valve as well as a leakage due to a faulty toilet pump. the toilet pump valve needed to be replaced. michael asked me if they could come back after the part (under warranty) had arrived. we told them that our contractor could do the replacement. michael told me that the replacement part had been ordered. I was a bit surprised as of how quick the part was ordered (within a few minutes), but thought maybe he had inside connections to do that much quicker than I could. after waiting for almost 4 weeks, the part never came. I contacted customer service via email. sharon responded and told me that michael had ordered the part again. it would be delivered to their office, and they asked me again if they could come out for installation. I told them that wouldn’t be needed as our contractor would be doing that. I asked them to let me know when the part had arrived, so that our contractor could go to their office to pick it up. after waiting for 3 weeks, the part still never came. I contacted sharon again. she said that the order had been shipped to our house. what? they told me earlier that it had been ordered and would be shipped to their office. now it had been shipped to our house? notice how the story had changed? sharon’s last email to me was on may 15th. I had contacted her twice (on may 18th and may 22nd) asking for the part number so that I could contact the manufacturer. we had to figure out the part number (which was the main reason why we contacted Mr. Rooter’s customer service in the first place), and contacted the manufacturer. they said that they never got any request to send a replacement part to our home address. it was when I realized that michael had never ordered the part in the first place. it is because we had declined for them to come back again for the installation, thus no reason for them to order the part. we are beyond disgusted that we had to wait more than 2 months for a part that never came. and with their empty promises of having ordered the part. to us, that was unethically dishonest (because we had declined their offer to come over to do the part replacement). they could have given us the part number and asked us to make an order ourselves instead of waiting for nothing."

"I was very pleased with Texas Service Plumbing. Their serviceman, Brandon, arrived on time and was appreciably in this time of COVID-19 wearing a mask. Brandon was very professional and found the leak fairly quickly. I was relieved to find out that it was not a slab leak. Instead, it was underneath the hot water heater closet but above the slab. He patched the leaking pipe dutifully and cleanly patched the sheet rock holes in the garage necessary to find and patch the leak. The good price of $390 was in part for a review, but I pleased with the work anyway. I would use Texas Service Plumbing again and recommend to others."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Wharton, TX

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
