"Pacific Stone and Tiles came to measure and showed about 6 choices for granite selection for the offer price. We were working with our own interior designer and we were on FaceTime with her. She nixed the 6 choices so Pacific Stone showed us another granite which was from India and was mostly white with few markings and some reddish-brownish highlights. The effect of this Indian granite was white and it coordinated nicely with our maple cabinets. Our interior designer told us to choose that and we agreed to pay Pacific Stone $1000. more for this granite from India. No name was given for this new granite in writing. When the day of installation came, the old countertop was removed. I did not think to go out and look at the granite in the truck before installation. The installation was done very efficiently and very nicely. However, the countertop did not look like what we were expecting. The color effect was gray with many markings. We were expecting a whitish granite and got gray. I asked to see the original sample that we had been shown when we selected the white granite but they did not have it on the truck. I contacted Pacific Stone and they emailed me a photo of what they said was the granite sample they showed me, but it did not look what they showed me. The granite we got was called moon white on the final bill but it had no name on the original invoice we signed. I made a number of inquiries about the discrepancy between the granite color we expected and what we received. Pacific Stone said there are natural variations in the appearance of each granite variety. However, we paid $1000 more because we thought we were getting the granite color we and our interior designer viewed and chose. I don't think I got the granite we selected and feel I paid $1000 too much. I now have to figure out how to get the granite to coordinate with the maple cabinets as well as regretting that I paid $1000 more than I should have."

Mike and his team arrived promptly at 8:00AM to start the projects.  They started by power washing both sets of steps and preparing the work area.

On the back brick steps, they grinded out all the loose, cracked and open mortar joints in the treads, risers, sides and landing.  They repointed all these areas.  They also patched all the areas on the side of the steps that had missing or cracked stucco.  They did an amazing job, the steps look brand new.

On the stone steps on the side of the driveway, they removed the wrought iron railing, took up the bluestone treads and chiseled out all the open mortar joints in the risers.  The repointed the joints in the risers, reset all the bluestone tread and reset the wrought iron railing, anchoring it in concrete.  Again, these step look new.

As it was raining at the end of the day, Mike and the team hung tarps to protect the stairs from the moisture.  Mike came back two days later to collect the tarps and check on the work.

Would definitely use again and have already had Bay State quote on additional projects.

"This is the third time we have used Universal Hardwood for floor work. The first time we had the floors in most of our 80 year old home repaired, sanded and refinished. We were very impressed with the work that was done and when we had additional work, we called Universal. Our second job done by Mike and his guys had them install a new cherry floor in a kitchen renovation, stain the floor and finish coat it. We also had the rest of the house not refinished previously completed. The new kitchen floor made our old house look contemporary. A great job! This summer we had a smaller garden condo in Brookline in need of some floor work. Three years ago we had Universal out to estimate the job and they were honest enough to tell us it didn't quite need it yet. In July, Mike came out to look at the job within a day of my call. He agreed it was time to refinish the floor. Within a week the floor was complete. Although he warned us some of the staining might not come up, the whole floor looked beautiful. And to our surprise an excellent job was done on the clean up as well. Should we have another floor job to be done, Universal will be our first and only call.

"Bay State Refinishing & Remodeling did such an amazing job with our complete bathroom remodel. From start to finish they were super organized, letting us know step by step what to expect and what we had to do on our end to keep the process moving. We picked out all our own fixtures/finishes, but they helped with that by scheduling showroom appointments and providing the sales people with spec sheets detailing what would fit/work in our space. When it came to the actual construction, they took care of every detail so we didn't have to think or worry about anything. The project took about 6 weeks start to finish (this was down to the studs remodel), and was 100% on schedule. The work itself was great, we especially appreciated Darlee who did the tile and installation. Marcio helped us plan the tile layout and gave some suggestions which I appreciated. They were all very professional and courteous (we did live in the space throughout the construction process). I would definitely work with them again and recommend them. You may pay a bit more than managing the process yourself, but well worth it in my opinion."
