"Urban's attention to detail was second to none. He was pickier than we were with the quality and fit and finish of everything that was done. We will be using him for future projects."

"Bill Mullane was an absolute joy to work with on our basement project. He not only demonstrated great skills, but was able to bring our vision of how we wanted the basement to look like to fruition. He was always kind, considerate and listened to our ideas. He was a fantastic problem solver and his work ethic, completion, and quality was 5/5 stars. We loved working with him and would recommend him without any hesitation."

"Matrix was very efficient and kept me informed every step of the way. The project manager John was very good at letting me know if things had to be moved to a different day. The workmen doing the individual parts of the job were also very helpful, offering advice when asked. They also kept the working areas very clean - no dreadful mess to clean up!"

"Jim the owner met me at my home and measured the space in the bathroom. I wanted a complete remodel. Jim provided some great suggestions on design and colors that would work in the small space. Him vetted his team of contractors to make the project seamless-from electricians to tiling to painting. Everyone was professional and friendly and cleaned up after. The finished project is absolutely stunning. See the before and after pictures. I highly recommend this company. Extremely efficient and detail oriented. Jim personally inspected each phase of the project"

"Dillon Contracting did an outstanding job with our basement. The owner, Tom, was very honest and transparent throughout the entire process. Tom and his employees are clearly very experienced and knowledgeable. We especially appreciated that they would give us options, as well as advice, on the many decisions we had to make. Our schedule was impacted on multiple occasions by delays in the materials that we had ordered (flooring, cabinets, etc.), but Tom was always very accommodating. What really makes this company stand out to me above all others is not just their quality of work, but how easy it was to always get a hold of them. Regardless of how big or small our question or concern may have been, Tom would always respond to our texts or calls right away. He was beyond patient, and went the extra mile to help us with anything we needed. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to get their basement finished (or any other home improvement work)."

"We had Tersigni & Sons Construction install a bathroom in our basement. From the very beginning, Pete was very professional and communications were exceptional. We always knew what to expect and when during the project which is critical when both spouses work. Pete completed the project while working with our schedules . Finished product is exactly what we were looking for ... thank you Pete ! We will be in touch when we're ready to complete the rest of our basement."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in White Lake, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
