"I hired Koala Insulation of Greater Baltimore for attic insulation and fan installation. Initially, things went well. Jeffrey L. did a great job explaining insulation options and ventilation, and I chose the company for their fair pricing and strong reviews. Unfortunately, the project didn?t go as planned. A job quoted as one day stretched into four visits due to planning issues and the crew lacking a tall enough ladder. I also ended up with paint damage on my staircase from their hose, which required touch-up work. Jasper mentioned possible compensation for the delays, but I never received follow-up from him or the owner. The crews were polite and did good work overall, but the poor communication, unexpected delays, and lack of accountability were disappointing. I?m leaving 3 stars based on my experience."

"We called Mister Insulation and Jeff came out in a day or so. We explained that we purchased new windows and doors and had insulation blowen into the walls but the house was still not warm. He took pictures in the attic and used a thermal camera to show where we were losing heat also we had mold. He removed the mold and replaced the insulation . He and his crew were very professional. We would recommend them ."

"It was a little more expensive than the two other bids I got, but I trusted the owner who, unlike the others, really listened to my concerns and preferences. Christian, the installer did a fast and efficient job above and beyond expectations. He was charming, hardworking, and fixed or repaired damaged or disconnected AC ductwork he discovered in pereparation for installing the insulation. He arrived on time, finished the job faster than I expected and did an immaculate job of cleaning up after the work."

"Thank you James Im, Antonio and crew for an amazing experience and a job well done! It is rare these days to find a home improvement company that you can trust from beginning to end. AHC staff and representatives ensured that every detail from estimates, to coordinating delivery of materials and quality control of installation was performed to the highest standards and exactly on time. James and Antonio/crew were attentive to our every question and concern, and in the end made the experience with AHC a memorable one worthy of the highest level recommendation. Bottom line: If you choose any other roof replacement contractor - you will be making a mistake!"

"Debbie, the AC&R salesperson, was very knowledgeable and confident. They were the 2nd quote I got for work and came in even lower than I expected (which gave me pause as a low bid is a red flag). But true to her word, they did the work professionally (mostly...see below) and promptly. While I had another company do the energy audit for the Pepco rebate, AC&R took over the work, did the blown fiberglass one day and the spray foam the next.

For the blown fiberglass in the attics above our additions, they added spray foam (from a can) around any gaps per the contract and foam board baffles at the soffits. The installer noted that all our soffits were blocked and the batting insulation was too wide for the rafter channels, so he leveled it out as best he could to ensure an even coating of blown insulation. At the end, he sealed up the gaps between the attic and our to-be-finished upstairs (cape cod style, so all one room).

For the spray foam insulation, the team came in the next day, and I had to be out of the house due to fumes. I did come back around noon as they expected to be done well before then. They didn't know I came in and I went to the back of the house to watch TV on my work break. The one annoyance was during their cleanup, one of the installers came down into our kitchen and then saw me. He said he was looking for a vacuum cleaner to clean the stairs. I told him don't worry about the carpet as it was getting pulled up, but this was the one piece of unprofessionalism I noted above. Contractors should NEVER use the homeowner's property; they should bring their own tools, including vacuums!

While the spray foam can get very messy, they kept the splatter mostly contained to inside the crawlspace, not the finished flooring. However, I was surprised that they didn't tape off the outlet covers or light switched. since the particles are so small, we're going to have to replace the switches/receptacles at our cost. Also, there was a storm door screen that wasn't covered and now needs cleaned. Basically, I think they should have taken more care in covering the very few items we left upstairs and the outlets/switches.

They didn't spray around the window frames (large gaps where window weights used to be) because the open cell foam would expand too much. If I wasn't there, I think they would have just left, but it was clear in our contract discussions they needed to insulate those spaces too. They used a few cans of "Good Stuff" equivalent, but didn't fill in the gaps entirely. It did the job well enough, but it's a ding against them as I expected more preparation.

Lastly, I thought that AC&R would walk me through all the scheduling and final "test out" (for the Pepco rebate), but I had to contact them and schedule with someone different each time. They were always prompt, but I expect the experts to know to do this for/with me rather than expect me to know the process. I go through it once in a lifetime while they do it weekly.

While the end of the review sounds more negative than positive, I would definitely recommend AC&R out to others as they're priced right, they have been in business for over a century, and like any contractor, you just need to follow up to be sure everything is done to your satisfaction.

"We contacted the Mark Group for a Home Energy Assessment because of coldness in our first floor living area and basement. Gordon performed the assessment and provided recommendations and an estimate to energy seal our basement with spray foam insulation. He assured us that having the work done would substantially decrease air loss, and as a result, the temperature of our first floor and basement would become so warm, we would be wearing short sleeves instead of sweatshirts. Gordon offered us a financial incentive to provide a deposit the day of estimate, something we rarely do. He also pointed out that the crew were professionals, and the insulation would not be sloppily applied, as was the case with a previous attempt by my husband around the circuit box. Gordon added that his crew would conduct a health/safety inspection of our existing CO detectors and install a new CO detector, if needed.
Subsequently we had the work done by 2 men who arrived promptly on the scheduled day. They took care to protect our carpet and furniture from debris, and removed and disposed of the old insulation before applying the spray foam. They did not provide any feedback on the status of our existing CO detectors but left a new one at the end of the day. Before leaving, they requested an immediate evaluation for Angie's List.  Upon a brief inspection, everything appeared to be satisfactory to my husband, and he complied by completing the form and giving all A grades.  At the time, the front door had been open for 2-3 hours; as this was necessary for proper performance of a blower door test, the house was understandably cold immediately following.
However, the next day my husband and I both noticed no difference in the temperature of the basement or first floor. Upon closer inspection, my husband observed gaps in the insulation where air flow was still evident. In our opinion, if the old dirt and debris had been vacuumed after removal of the old insulation, the spray would have adhered better, but they did not make the extra effort to do this. In addition, we saw an overall lack of uniformity in the application of the insulation. In some areas the foam was evenly applied, but more often than not, there were several areas where the foam did not completely fill the space or overflowed on to the cinder-block wall.  He promptly contacted the Mark Group and Gordon informed him that someone would contact us to schedule a return visit.  I subsequently emailed Gordon photos of the insulation and requested another thermal camera analysis. Additionally, after further inspection when moving items back into place, there was significant debris on the floor, as well as other areas of the basement that took several hours to clean up.
Approximately 5 days later, Pat came out to inspect the work done and brought the thermal camera. He performed the thermal analysis in the basement and filled in the gaps mentioned,  but explained it was difficult to evenly apply the insulation given the nature of the product and application. Also, he pointed out that due to the structure of our home, it was impossible to substantially improve the temperature in the basement and first floor without having significant structural renovations. While we appreciated Pat's honesty, we felt like Gordon made empty promises and overestimated the benefits of the air sealing.
This was one of the few times, my husband and I agreed to have work done at the time of estimate, mainly because of the majority of highly favorable reviews,  persuasive statements regarding comfort level, and financial incentive.  Looking back, however, after re-reading ?F? review, I can relate to the homeowner's frustration and regret making the decision without further questioning.

FAQs for batt, rolled or reflective insulation install or upgrade projects in White Marsh, MD

Batt insulation excels in vertical installations because it remains firmly in place and delivers consistent thermal performance. Blown-in insulation performs exceptionally in spaces such as attics, efficiently filling gaps in irregular areas.

Employing both insulation types according to their strengths enhances your home’s overall energy efficiency and comfort by providing a tailored solution for every space.

Start by measuring the square footage of the space, then match that area with the insulation thickness you need to hit your target R-value. Add a buffer for waste and odd-shaped spots so every cavity is covered.

Once you have a rough count, run it past a local insulation pro—their on-site advice will fine-tune the numbers and help you avoid costly miscalculations.

Old insulation that is dry, intact, and mold-free does not require removal before adding new insulation; stacking new insulation over it maintains effective thermal performance and boosts energy efficiency.

If the insulation is damp, moldy, or deteriorated, removal is necessary to eliminate health risks and ensure maximum effectiveness of the new layer. A professional insulation contractor will assess your situation and recommend the most effective solution.

Installing insulation in an average-sized home using batts or boards requires five to 12 hours. Using spray foam or blown-in insulation requires two to five hours. These timeframes are determined by the area’s size, accessibility, and whether old insulation must be removed.

Complex projects and hard-to-reach spaces demand extra time. Hiring an experienced insulation professional ensures that the installation is completed efficiently and correctly.

Insulation is measured by R-value, which defines how effectively it resists heat flow. A higher R-value provides superior thermal resistance, ensuring your home remains warm in winter and cool in summer.

Choosing the correct R-value is essential for maximizing energy efficiency and comfort, and it directly impacts long-term utility savings. Professional guidance determines the optimal R-value for your specific climate.
