"The quality of the carpet and the installation were very good.  But the crew was careless in moving furniture, scratching two pieces and putting some dings in the walls.  According to the terms of the contract, C & R is not responsible for such damage, so we're stuck with the results.  Other providers do take responsibility for damage, so you need to decide whether the money saved by getting C & R's low price is worth the risk.  Also be aware that the "free" financing isn't free. There's a 4.99% up-front charge, supposedly for handling or some such thing."

"We contacted Pete and his team to help repair the carpeting in our home that after just 3 years after installation, had begun buckling and bubbling due to improper installation by our builder.  Pete was very responsive to our need and provided us a quote within a day and we scheduled our service.  He is very knowledgeable and his team was very friendly, respectful, and did phenomenal work while taking special care not to damage any furniture or leave any mess behind.  The end result was that our carpet looked brand new and we are now confident that it is properly secured and will last a much longer time.  Thanks Pete & Team!"

"I would absolutely hire these guys again. They kept in contact with me up until the day of the project, they worked around my budget, and they were efficient and prompt in all aspects of the job. These guys came in, did the job amazingly, and I definitely feel like it was worth the money. Not only did everyone do an amazing job, but eve ryone was also very kind and personable. I definitely give the customer service and the job itself a 10 out of 10. I will definitely contact them again when I can afford to fix up the floors in the rest of my house!"

"The salesman, Hal, was extremely helpful and very patient assisting my wife and I select the right hardwood floor for our home; a beautiful Cappuccino Birch. Empire Today matched Lowes' product and installation price. Installation was conduct within days on my schedule. The installer, Cipian, and his crew were exceptional! Very professional from start to finish. They let my wife personally inspect each board before it was laid down. A+ craftsmanship on trim work!!"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Williamsburg, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
