"Home Genius Exteriors did an awesome job replacing our roof and installing gutters. Brady Phillips was our primary contact and was superb in explaining the process. This company went to work right away. Our job was complete in less than two weeks. We couldnâ  t be happier. Vicky"

"Update 2-12-16 :  I was having a little bit of trouble
with my attic fan after the baffles were installed.  Roofing & More
came out and checked it out.  The company sent out Gene Davis, their
Operations Manager.  It was a pleasure working with Gene.  He was
friendly, professional and knowledgeable.  He did a thorough job
investigating the situation.  He ended up tightening the connection of the
fan to the electrical source. His services were covered under warranty.

I would also like to thank Marie Hoffman for her help with trying to find the
right type of replacement vinyl siding for my home.  Marie went out of her
way to come to my house after work to bring me several samples of vinyl siding
that she thought would work well with the exterior of my home.  I
appreciated that extra step Marie took.

Re-evaluating all my experiences with Roofing & More I have decided to
change my grade from a 'B' to an 'A'.  They earned it.

My experience was comprised of both positive and negative
encounters.
Positive:
a.) receptionist called me back in a timely manner to schedule a free
onsite consultation.
b.) project manager who conducted onsite consultation was professional and
conducted a thorough examination of the items I wanted work on.
c.) the technician who actually did the work was skilled, had command of the
English language and had copies of the work order in hand.
Negative:
a.) I had to chase down getting a quote.  It was necessary for me to
contact the president of the company in order to get this done. After he
returned my call to discuss the matter I received a quote later that day.
b.) my original appointment was cancelled due to an emergency.  That is
alright.  Emergency situations requiring our immediate attention happen to
all of us.  I understand that. A replacement appointment was made.  I
received a call on the day of that rescheduled appointment stating that it
needed to be rescheduled. I was very unhappy about that.
c.) I failed to receive calls /  info when I was told I would get them.
This happened repeatedly. That is not how I do business.
d.) I found it strange the estimate did not have itemized pricing on it. Rather
it listed all the items to be worked on and a grand total reflecting
discounts.  I will say however, the details of each job to be completed
were spot on.  My mistake, other than asking for a breakout of job costs
was not asking what type of baffles were going to be installed.  I would
have paid for a better material than foam.  However, these are my
mistakes.
e.) I dealt with several people within the organization concerning my project
at various times.  I got the feeling they were not communicating to one
another.  I often found myself telling different people the same
thing.  I asked 'didn't he or she contact you about this?.'
f.) There was a problem regarding the vinyl siding that was brought for the
job.  The project manager indicated to me he found a 'perfect match.?  Well that turned out not to be the case. It
does not match at all.  The technician ultimately removed a piece of the
existing siding to see if he could identify the manufacturer and color
type.  He was able to do so.  I asked him for that info.  To
make sure we got the right pieces the next go round I did my own research
online.  I provided that info to Roofing & More.   We are
now waiting to hear back regarding the cost.  I am being told I will be
responsible for this cost.  I am ok with this since they need to order it
in a bundle and I will have left over pieces in case something needs to be
replaced in the future.  I too may have
agreed with the contractor about the original vinyl piece color.   To be honest I can?t recall.
I would give Roofing and More a letter grade of 'B'. I would also like to
point out the people are ok to deal with."

"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"I purchased a roof inspection and tune-up theough Angie’s list. I was contacted quickly to set up the appointment and provided a reminder prior thereto. The technician was Mike G. who called about 10 minutes before arrival. He explained what he would do, then proceeded to inspect the attic and roof, making some repairs to the roof as necessay. When completed, we sat down to review pictures and discuss options. Mike G. explained things clearly but did not pressure us to do anything at this time. When the time comes to repair or replace the roof, we will definitely contact American Home Contractors."

"Excellent! Very fast and extremely Knowledgeable-I really like the fact that they focus only on roofing and they just they didn’t just come out and inspect the air my roof water was leaking inside the interior they went inside to actually see the water stain to see exactly what needs to be repaired. Most importantly they focused on repairing the area requested versus other companies who oppression me to replace the entire roof Versus focusing on the area with the issue"

"In October 2014 Mr. Lazo came to look at the task at hand. I showed him what I wanted done and he pointed out a couple of wood rot problems that I had not noticed. Once we finished the walk around, he prepared a detailed proposal - before leaving.
I had also talked with another contractor about the same work. They took several days to prepare a proposal, and when I e-mailed with a specific question the reply I got (from the other company, not George's painting) was not satisfactory.
George mobilized his crew, and they were on the site at 7AM. Because there was rain in the forecast, he brought in a larger crew than original discussed, and was able to finish the job quicker than originally scheduled. The work was great, they carefully cleaned up and  left the house and yard in excellent shape.
I had specifically asked that they not touch one side of the garage because of some carpentry work that needed to be done - I was planning to do it. I was so pleased with the work that they did on the house and the rest of the garage that I asked George to give me a quote for doing the carpentry work on the garage. I liked the price and I decided to have him do it. The carpenter came out today Nov 12th - 7AM again, and took care of the carpentry work and painted it.
I am pleased with the work that George's Painting has done, and would expect to contact Mr. Lazo again in the future if I need interior painting or other painting or carpentry work. I don't expect to be needing any exterior painting.
I recommend George's Painting Inc. Quality work, done in a timely manner at a reasonable price!

"When a contractor left me high and dry with a nearly demolished house Zelaya General construction came to the rescue! The foreman and customer liaison Jorge was patient with my fears and distrust of contractors. Throughout the process, he listened to my needs and completed the work exactly as I asked. He also made gentle recommendations for needed work. Without Jorge’s guidance, I would have never gotten through this entire process."

"The installation of the windows was excellent and we are very happy with the new windows.   Overall the installers did a good job.  They did struggle a little with a window above our front door.  The window was a double hung with two side window panels and we replaced it with just a pane of glass.  It was a slight struggle for them to get it installed.
The window installers were also responsible for installing the vinyl trim around the windows and some other areas.  This was a mistake.  They were not very qualified to do this type of work.   The crew that was sub-contracted to do the vinyl on the house had to remove and replace quite a bit of what the window installers installed.  It was just sloppy and poorly caulked.  Detail oriented work was not a strong skill of the window installers.
The guys responsible for the trim were excellent.  They did a great job with what they needed to do plus the work to correct what the window guys did incorrectly.  Originally I was told by the sales guy that some of the "fancier" trim could not be covered.  These guys covered everything.  Sales person told me it was a different company than they originally contacted with, and that company did not have the proper tools.  The company that did the vinyl work should have done 100% of the vinyl work, and the windows guys should have just installed the windows.
The new front door was the most interesting piece of all the work.  The same crew that did the windows also did the door.   Not so sure this was a good idea.
The new door was a fiberglass door, two side panel 3/4 height windows and a window across the top of the door.
Once the old door was removed, it was clear there was some rotten wood under the door itself.   After I brought this to the attention of the installer, he talked me in to it would be fine as there is a new piece of plywood on the new door.  I should have insisted this be fixed/reinforced and I never brought this to the attention of the sales person.  The new door where you step in to the house is bouncy and does not have a solid feel.  The installers should have known to fix this, but it was more work, and work that would take some time and skill to fix.  I kick my self every time I come in the front door and bounce.  Live and learn.
The door is custom made to fit the measurements done by the installers.  The fit was so tight and the had to cut out some of the door frame on the sides and top so it would fit.  I am not contractor, but usually you have a 1/2 to 3/4 inch on each side so you can square the door by shimming.  In my opinion this made it much more difficult to install.
Once the door was installed there were further issues with the trim around he door inside the house.  The old trim was not side enough for the new door. Initially, they put up the old trim and just filled the corners with at least 1/2 inch of caulk.  They came back the next day fixed the caulk issue, but then the side trim was too short for the height of the door so the put a large
bead of white calk at the bottom of the trim where it meets the hardwood floor.  Again I asked for this to be fixed and not by the initial installers.  A new sub-contractor came back several days later.
Another issue with the door was there were a few pieces of trim that were part of the door that the installers had to install.  The trim matched the color of the door and was very thin.  When this was installed they did not pre-drill the holes and just pounded in nails and split the trim.  They tried to tell me that wood filler would cover the splits and would not be noticeable.  I insisted this be replaced.  Supreme ordered new trim and it was replaced by the new contractor fixing the trim issues.
Last issue with the door was the installer did not know how to make the handle type door knob work for a left swing door.  So the handle would swing down to open the door, they installed the door handle backwards so it stuck out past the edge of the door.  I though it was the wrong hardware and told them to install it the correct direction and I would lift up on the handle until it was replaced with the correct hardware.  There was a setting in the hardware to make it work the other way and this was corrected and is working fine.
The outside trim around the door was initially installed by the window/door installers and was totally removed and replaced by the trim installers.
The quality of all the products, Simonton 5500 windows, Provia door and the trim seems very good.  Have not been through a big cold spell with the windows yet, but the sound proofing the windows provide is definitely noticeable.   I do notice where I had drafts before they are no longer there and I think I notice the A/C runs less when it is really hot outside.  I am curious to see how the door and its finish hold up from the afternoon sun beating on it.
I never did receive my gift card, which was promised to me by the sales person, when I made my final payment.

FAQs for wood or fiber cement siding installation or complete replacement projects in Winchester, VA

Yes, removing your existing siding before installing new cedar siding is essential for a secure and long-lasting installation. It helps eliminate hazards like rot and pest infestations and ensures a smooth surface for the new siding. Leaving old siding in place can compromise the appearance and integrity of your new cedar siding. Engaging a licensed siding contractor will ensure proper removal and preparation.

To determine how much cedar siding you'll need, start by measuring the height and width of each exterior wall of your home to calculate the area. For gable ends, measure from the base to the peak. Add up all these areas and then add an extra 10% to account for waste and future repairs. This ensures you purchase enough siding without running short.

Cedar siding endures between 20 and 40 years if maintained correctly from the start. This lifespan is secured by performing regular inspections for cracks, fungus, and bubbling and by pursuing consistent cleaning, painting, or staining with an appropriate sealant. Engaging a professional for periodic inspections ensures that your siding remains resilient and visually appealing for decades.

Your cedar siding must be maintained every three to five years through a thorough restaining or repainting process to preserve its strength and appearance. Regular maintenance prevents damage and ensures that the wood remains in peak condition. For homeowners seeking a less demanding upkeep schedule, choosing vinyl or aluminum siding offers a more resilient alternative while still providing exceptional style.
