"We went in not knowing what we wanted. Steve was very helpful with product choices. He came out to measure and made recommendations. He gave us an estimate and when we weren't quite ready to fund the project he said he would keep our information. Sure enough 1 year later we contacted him and he still had our original estimate with all of the products we wanted. Once the project was started, Dimitri and his son were amazing and put in very long days until the job was done. They were very meticulous and did an outstanding job. We will definitely go back for our next flooring project."

"<p>I looked all over for someone to convert my carpeted stairs over to hardwood stairs.  My husband was going to do it but I really wanted a professional job so I went to Angie's list and am I glad I did!  Phil came out and gave me a great price for the install job (my husband did the stain on the wood).  Phil worked within my timeframe and when we ran into a problem Phil worked with us to do the job over 2 days instead of 1 and he didn't charge us more money...Phil is the best!!  </p> <p>We had already had the new floors put in but the trim wasn't completed because we were waiting for the stairs to be completed and Phil finished the trim at no additional charge.  Phil knew how worried I was about damaging my new floors and he covered the floors the whole time he worked.  I am so grateful for Phil and I have already recommended him to my friends.  Phil gets a all around 10 from me...Thanks Phil :-)</p> <br />"

"Second time I've used Ralph Opfer Floors and I highly recommend them. The selection is extensive without being overwhelming and the customer service saved me a lot of time by listening to what my job entailed and helping me narrow my options. The installation went without a hitch and I couldn't have been more pleased overall. I recommend them to my clients who are looking for a flooring contractor. Mary Nesel/Lyon Real Estate"

"Gillespie Flooring are very professional and efficient. We had them out a couple of times to do work for us. We had new tile put in the bathrooms, laundry room, and some carpet laid in our home by Gillespie s and we were pleased. Gillespie s also told us about their floor cleaning service and we decided to take them up on the offer to clean the carpets and the existing tile. The floors turned out beautifully and we were pleased with all the services. Gillespie s came very highly recommended to us, so we used them and are extremely pleased with the company. They do quality installation and outstanding tile cleaning at great prices."

"Overall, it went great and we are very pleased with the outcome. We have an odd shape area in our family room that we wanted a rug for to be carpeted. Owner was able to come measure the area we wanted the same evening we first went to ask about a custom rug. He was able to give me an estimate the next day with total costs (we wanted one side binded as well. The only issue is that I had some trouble at first getting a hold of someone to give me a solid progress check for the rug, but eventually I got it and was able to get it when wanted it by. Overall, I'd recommend and better to go local than a big chain store. The rug looks great and we're very happy with it. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Winters, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
