"We are so happy we used Quality Decks! Jose and his team were incredible throughout our deck extension project. Almost daily, Jose would call to update me on what was going to be worked that day and what time his crew would be out. He finished on-time and his workers were clean and professional, always picking up after themselves and friendly. He even worked with our cement contractor, as we were laying a cement pad during the same time as our deck build. The project turned out beautifully, top quality, and Jose came back one last time to make sure all the details were to our liking and that all the scuffs on the house were repaired or fixed to look brand new. Use Quality Decks for your deck extensions, builds and remodels. Jose is the deck expert!"

"We had Rocky Mountain Custom Decks build our deck about 10 years ago. My husband is an engineer and he was highly impressed with the work by Nate and his crew. So, when we decided to replace our front porch rails with Trex we knew who to call. When Nate started working on our porch, he discovered Classic Homes was only using 2x4 beams to support the roof over the porch. Classic built a box around each support beam so we never knew! Nate replaced them with treated 4x4 beams. Our porch was not level so he had to make several adjustments to ensure the Trex railings lined up correctly and looked level from the street, side of house, etc. He consulted with us each time to make sure we were ok with what he was doing to account for our builder's screw ups. It's nice to have a contractor that treats each project like it is for his own home. I fully trust Nate to give me a quality job every time. I wouldn't use anyone else."

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Dan to build a floor-to-ceiling river rock fireplace. He suggested a log beetle-kill pine mantle, which he has a source for. The final results are truly breathtaking, and pictures really donâ t do it justice! Dan was very patient and flexible through many delays and issues not caused by him, but having to do with the original fireplace insert, which we ended up replacing. He was always prompt, with great communication. Dan is really an old-world craftsman, with old-world values, and we would recommend him highly, and plan to use him again. He is a man of many talents and interests, and he and his crew worked very hard to make sure everything was perfect, and that we were happy with everything, as picky as we were â lol! Danâ s many years of experience were evident, and his sense of design and the best way to do something was invaluable. Teller County is lucky to have such a talented craftsman."

" We are very pleased from start to finish with our experience with Elevate Decks (Clint). He was our fourth quote and was well below the price points of the other contractors. Not only was the price much lower than the rest, but the quality of workmanship showed from top to bottom. Integrity and honesty is a must for us and he delivered. The attention to details was spot on. Since we were impressed with the whole project we decided to go with him on our second step down deck also. If you need a deck done Elevate Decks is the clear winner. "

"Nova completely removed and rebuilt three decks for our mountain home. The new decks were far superior to the original decks. Nova was detail oriented with high quality work. Cleanup after completion was excellent. Nova helped with other smaller projects as well. For example: He removed everything from our large garage and painted the wallls and ceiling."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Woodland Park, CO

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
