"I waited a month before getting a test kit I called and was told there was something wrong with the Angies list orders but that I would be receiving a kit soon. It wouldve ben nice if they called me to tell me that though. The test results were quick and on par with other radon test I had done locally."

"The inspector was very friendly. We actually talked a lot while the inspection was going on. During the inspection, some stains were noticed on the bedroom ceiling. When the inspector went up into the attic no water issues were seen so we figured the leak was from a prior issue. Fast forward about a month later and those stains are now a water leak. The leak is coming from the vent pipe on the roof. When the inspector went into the attic he looked in the wrong place. The water stains were within a foot of the vent pipe. He was looking on the opposite side of the attic. Had he looked in the correct place he would've noticed the stains were near the vent pipe. I then would have asked the seller to repair or replace the vent pipe collar prior to purchasing the house. Now, I have to pay for the repair myself and fix the wet ceiling. This was a big miss by the inspector."

"<p>We contacted Excel Home Inspections in CT to have them inspect a potential beach home for us....we spoke with Debbie Odom and she was very kind, knowledgeable and accommodating.  We set up an appointment for the inspection and Debbie was punctual and ready to begin her 3 hour inspection.  She was thorough, experienced and offering advice throughout the entire inspection.  We were extremely pleased and satisfied with the high level of work that Debbie did.  We received a binder with a copy of her notes and within 24 hours we received a fully typed summary of the inspection.  We highly recommend Debbie Odom and Excel Home Inspection in Waterford, CT.  </p> <br />"

"Tom from Sound Home Inspections is fantastic! He was easy to schedule and right on time. Most importantly, he was very, very thorough and took the time to explain everything in detail. I liked that he not only pointed out problems but also had the knowledge to describe how those problems might be fixed. He seemed to genuinely care that we fully understood every detail of the home and was happy to answer questions that arose well after the fact. We found his pricing to be very fair and straightforward. His report came quickly, with pictures to document each point.  <br /> We got the recommendation from an acquaintance but afterward found so many coworkers, friends, and neighbors who also raved about his high quality work. Highly recommended! <br />"

"Jason was everything a home inspector should be. He arrived a few minutes before the scheduled time, explained what he was going to do, and went right to work. He welcomed being shadowed, explaining what he was doing and pointing out all the good, bad and ugly he uncovered. He was utterly thorough, beginning an outside inpection and continuing inside going room by room, taking pictures, entering data on his computer, and explaining his findings. He took his time and seemed to leave no stone unturned. He answered all questions willingly and left me with the feeling that my money was well-spent.  <br /> <br /> Jason knew I was under time pressure to get the report back, and that same evening he was able to deliver a pdf copy of his report."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Woodstock-valley, CT

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
