"Our home inspection prior to buying our house raised some issue with our well.  The inspecting company quoted us a price to fix the issues.  I called Water Doctor for another opinion.  They sent the owner over within 45 minutes to take a look.  Their quote was about $800 less. They even told me I shouldn't bother with a more expensive well pump a friend recommended because it wouldn't make enough difference in our situation, for the added cost.   I scheduled the work for the next week. The guys were courteous and professional and completed the work in a reasonable time frame.  They answered all my questions as I am new to having a well for water.  the only issue was they were a little over an hour late getting started because they had to take a service call first. I intend to use them for my future well and pump maintenance <br />"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"<p>We contacted Excel Home Inspections in CT to have them inspect a potential beach home for us....we spoke with Debbie Odom and she was very kind, knowledgeable and accommodating.  We set up an appointment for the inspection and Debbie was punctual and ready to begin her 3 hour inspection.  She was thorough, experienced and offering advice throughout the entire inspection.  We were extremely pleased and satisfied with the high level of work that Debbie did.  We received a binder with a copy of her notes and within 24 hours we received a fully typed summary of the inspection.  We highly recommend Debbie Odom and Excel Home Inspection in Waterford, CT.  </p> <br />"

"1 day after I contacted to the company, he called back and make an appointment instantly. He recommended further aspects. the price may be higher as we did not originally planned for radon, but after his educational explanation, we decided to do that. The inspection took more than 2 hours, but he was very happy to spend explaining to us and how to fix it. The report was thorough and shared with the seller. Seller agreed to fix it and we are happy. If you like fully informed and eager to learn, he is highly recommended."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Woodstock-valley, CT

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
