"The installation went very well. Kevin and I reviewed the work that I wanted done from the estimate that he had given me previously. After review we made some modifications to the plan and then the real work got started. The Vortex team went about their work in a very professional manner. They removed the old and very clogged up existing drain line, being careful to avoid an electrical wiring conduit and my water supply line. A 12" pvc drainage basin was installed along with enough 4" pvc pipe to reach into the natural area beyond the nearest edge of my yard. Some of the dug out rock was used to provide protection to the exposed end of the pipe. Two of the gutter downspouts from my porch were tied into the system to help move that water away from the house as well. After the trench was filled in, grass seed and hay were spread in the trenched areas. Finally, the drain was tested with a water hose to verify that water would indeed drain out. To install the new basin and drain pipe, they had to disturb a small flower bed. I did not expect them to fix this, but they did, including reshaping the border bricks to fit around the new larger drain basin. As far as I'm concerned, this was going above and beyond in the customer service department. I very much appreciated this added touch!"

"The service was originally scheduled for Aug 28, but I received a call a couple hours before the previously scheduled appointment letting me know that the technician was behind on a job and couldn't make our appointment. The next available time to come out was a week later.  The work began on Sept 8 but was not able to be completed until Sept 14.  The technician only had one valve box when he first came.  After 6.5hrs of billable labor, the work was completed to my satisfaction.  I received the invoices in the mail for the work on Oct 17 (later the owner informed me they were setn via email, however I never received them), despite asking to pay upon completion of the work.  I was told that the technician had to submit the job and I would be billed later.  While the invoice for the parts was reasonable, the rate charged for labor I felt was excessive especially given the pace of the work.  The repair work charged was 11% of initial cost to install our system with 50 sprinklers on 1/2 acre of land (including the labor, parts, inspections, etc.)  Save your money, use a different service provider.  If you choose this one, get an agreed to set amount before any work begins."

"If all of the sudden you find yourself with a new water feature in your front yard that you didn't have installed... chances are there's a break in your main water line leading into your home from the city hookup running under the street. <br /> We found ourselves with such a surprise. Water bubbling up through cracks in the driveway and sopping wet grass along the sides. <br /> Did some research online and via AngiesList and found PipeTechs. They apparently do all sorts of plumbing work, but they're specialists in finding and repairing leaks like this. <br /> Their tech, Andrew, was very competent and professional and, lucky us, was able to get out here the day that we called. He did a helium test which sends gas through the line from the meter to the house and a "sniffer" which detects where the gas is escaping. Lucky for us, the leak wasn't under the driveway but was under some plants near the house. (The water must have been leaking for a long time as the cracks where the water was coming up and the area of the lawn that was soggy was a good 15 to 20 feet away). <br /> The test was kind of expensive, but a helluva lot cheaper than having someone dig all over the place looking for the leak. Who'd have thought to begin looking so far away from the soggy area? I was sure it was under the driveway. <br /> Andrew found the area of the leak, dug up the plant, dug down to the main line, found the leak, repaired it and then... put all the dirt back and replanted the bed. Couldn't even tell he'd been there after he left. <br /> We're lucky the leak was under soil and not concrete. Like I said, I thought it was going to be under the driveway. Which, btw, is why I called PipeTechs. If it had been under the driveway, I think they'd have been able to run a completely new water line from the house to the street under the lawn instead of having to break up the concrete driveway (which would have been VERY expensive). Their website highlights their "trenchless" system. Thankfully, we didn't need them to do that... but that's actually the reason I made contact with them first. Prepare for the worst; be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't come to that :-) <br />"

"Our soil is all clay which has the highest risk of damaging a foundation as it alternates between wet and dry. Even a light rain would leave us a soggy yard for days as most of the roof drained to the lawn via downspouts or popups. Water would collect at the front of our house because the front yard and driveway sloped down to the house. The builder used flimsy corrugated plastic tubes for underground connections to pop ups on the lawn. (One of flimsy tubes was blocked with debris.) Drain Designs did an excellent job connecting new commercial grade 4 inch PVC pipes to all downspouts plus installed two surface drains to collect water at the house front. The three-team crew (Rob, Dalton and Jonny) were courteous, skilled and hard working. They hand dug trenches next to the foundation against our home, carefully removing any plants which they watered and set aside. The PVC pipes were placed and securely connected with screws. All of the roof’s rain was directed through the underground PVCs to the woods behind our house. Downspout cleanouts for flushing were placed. The plants were replanted so carefully that neighbors could not tell that the work had been done. In the following week we had two intense downpours during which the new system worked flawlessly. No water pooled at the front of the house or in our yard. We highly recommend Drain Designs. BTW, their guarantee is a lifetime…not my lifetime but the home’s because it’s a Transferable Lifetime Warranty."

FAQs for lawn and garden sprinkler system installation projects in Youngsville, NC

While drip irrigation systems have higher upfront costs, they can save you money in the long run. By delivering water directly into the soil with minimal evaporation and runoff, drip irrigation systems conserve water and improve efficiency. This means better performance and results for your landscaping, and cost savings over the system's lifespan.

Yes, irrigation systems can add value to your home, especially when installed with high-quality materials and a solid design. A well-irrigated landscape enhances curb appeal and can attract potential buyers. However, poor design or installation may reduce performance and even decrease your property's value. Hiring an expert for installation and performing regular maintenance is key to securing the long-term benefits.

A local irrigation professional can help you check your drip irrigation system to make sure it's in good shape. You'll want to make sure the water pressure is in a good range, repair any leaks as soon as possible, and cover the cost to winterize your sprinkler system as recommended by your irrigation contractor.

A drip irrigation system lasts between 10 and 15 years. This lifespan is determined by the quality of materials, the precision of installation, and regular professional maintenance. Unlike traditional sprinkler systems that can last up to 50 years, the thinner piping used in drip systems is more sensitive to UV exposure and environmental wear. Proper upkeep and timely repairs enhance durability and ensure consistent irrigation performance.

Drip irrigation is best suited for plant beds, containers, greenhouses, and row crops. It supplies water directly to individual plants, ensuring precise moisture control where it is needed most. For areas with simple layouts, above-ground systems work efficiently, while subsurface installations may be cost-prohibitive in spaces with extensive tree roots or irregular terrain. Proper planning maximizes the benefits of drip irrigation across a variety of applications.
