"The week before our house was supposed to be ready to list, our handyman injured himself on another project. I then scrambled to find someone to do some of the jobs he was set to do. I called Ralph's Floors due to the high recommendations here, which is why I am taking the time to write about my experience. <br /> First, I will say that I am very thankful to find someone to come out and do the work with only a few days notice. And it's my own fault for not clarifying their charges ($200 minimum for a call-out). If I had, I would have been more diligent in looking for additional work for the repairer to do; they existed but with the house sale we have a lot of bills coming in and I was trying to focus on the most important work that needed to be done. Overall, I am happy with the work that was performed but not as much with the professionalism of the installer and the final bill. <br /> There were a few sections of the carpet that needed to be stretched and two areas that needed minor repairs. I feel that the work the installer did was done fine but I would have preferred the work be done better/a bit differently.  <br /> My issues with professionalism are this: the installer showed up about three hours earlier than scheduled. Unfortunately what his meant was that I was very distracted with the other work that was being done (carpet cleaning) and some drywall work in another part of the house. It added more stress onto an already stressful experience. Plus, I couldn't easily talk to him/oversee the upstairs work was done the way I really wanted it done. <br /> On top of that, when the man let himself in, he walked right over freshly cleaned carpets and stairs in his work boots to find me! And then he balked when I asked him to put shoe covers on. During the coarse of his work he didn't want to have to keep putting them on when he needed to go out to his truck and back to get tools. Working in the carpet business, I was baffled this was even an issue. It certainly left a poor impression and while it doesn't preclude me from using them again, I'll admit gives me pause when recommending this company to others. <br />"

"Andy's installed a natural, wool berber carpet with hypo-allergenic pad and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. The product is much better quality than my old synthetic carpet and I now wake up with no congestion and coughing. They used a low VOC glue so there were no strong odors after installation. I had several quotes for this product and the pricing was pretty much the same as the other vendors. There were minor differences in cost of materials and labor, which is why I rated the pricing as "fair". I went with Andy's because they were familiar with the product I wanted. With wool, you want to get someone that is knowledgeable about the material. There were a couple snags with the vendor and sub-contractor, but George at Andy's made sure I was taken care of and the carpet was expertly installed."

"We moved into this 50+ year old house last year and try to get by with the old dirty carpets. But recently our kitties started to pee on some spots around the house because of the dog urines from previous occupants. Some of the old urines have even soaked into the old wood floors underneath the carpets. So the old carpets had to go. Initially we thought that the old wood floor beneath the carpets was beyond repair, because, for the few places we could see, it is full of nails, staples and animal urine marks. It looked really ruined. While I was looking on the Angies' List for carpet replacement, I found Robbins Hardwood and called the owner Dan Robbins to take a look at our floor. He made me an appointment the next day. He is very knowledgeable and polite, and took time to answer my questions. He also made best of his efforts to reduce our cost, and his estimate was very reasonable and honest. We came to realized that how much labor and skills involved in restoring the old wood floor. Besides operating the heavy sanding machine with high precision, there was a lot hand scraping and sanding for the edges and small spaces. Dan and his employee came everyday early, only took a very short lunch break and worked very hard. Dan made sure that every step was done properly. And they worked very efficiently. We are very pleased with the results - Robbins Hardwood has given our old floor a NEW life and it is beautiful! And it is clean (dust-free), green (no need to cut more trees), and cost effective."

"Excellent no pressure sales. Gave me multiple options for redoing the flooring in my condo. They were able to work with my schedule since I in the process of moving and currently live out of town. The installation was professional and they left the condo looking like new. Will hire them again to do additional wood flooring in the future."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Bellingham, WA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
