"I was very pleased with Remedy for installing a ZOELLER sump pump. That brand was highly recommended by my brother-in-law who happens to be a Master HVAC. The replacement took just over an hour by an experienced service technician. When completed he fully explained the operation of the battery backup. I would highly recommend Remedy for sump repair and/or replacement."

"I would give them an A++ if possible. Kap and his crew were punctual, hard-working on a beastly hot day and cleaned up beautifully. Now we no longer have a swamp in our lawn from the sump pump discharge. Versatile--Skillful at plumbing, laying pipe in lawn, cutting sidewalk and curb, and restoring concrete. Great job!"

"I forgot to do this review but am glad I did because I am two years out having waterproofing services by this company. The drain and sump pump recommended by Robert Ellis is absolutely worth it. I no longer am anxious about weather forecasts because of the work done. Robert evaluated my home, gave me options and soft recommendations then allowed me space to make the best long term decision. Completely satisfied and would recommend."

"It went very, very well. They showed up on time and stayed late to get our basement put back into tip top shape as quickly as possible. It took approximately six weeks to complete the full job. They would have finished sooner if I didn't have to have this special shower surround, me and my bright ideas which went on back order as we entered into pandemic mode! But I loved it all when they finished. I have two sump pumps and they are my go-to team ANYTIME I have problems. Again, they show up quickly and do great work!"

Customers say: Quick response

"The work that was done exceeded my expectations. The problems with the leaky bathroom sink were identified and fixed. As the main project ended, we discovered a problem with the kitchen sink not draining and the garbage disposal not working. I didn't expect the problem to be fixed right away, but I was told that "We can't leave you with this problem." The problem was fixed before he left. I will definitely use this company again for plumbing needs."

"JES Foundation contracts all their electrical work out to Root Electric. In the process of installing my new sump pump, back-up sump pump, and sump pump alarm system, it was determined that a new dedicated outlet could not be created due to my existing electrical panel being too small. Thus, I needed to get an electrical panel upgrade. Through JES Foundation, a date and time was arranged to have my new electrical panel upgrade installed. The lead Root electrician Andrew, and his assistant Andy, dd a terrific job installing the new upgraded electric panel. They were both very friendly, efficient, and professional. Andrew afterwards walked me through everything that was done, and answered any questions that I had. They also cleaned up afterwards very well. I highly recommend Root Electric and JES Foundation to anyone who needs their expertise."

"They responded quickly to my call for an emergency drain cleaning. The backup occurred at 7pm and a crew was on site by 10pm. A "supervisor" came by about 10:30 to discuss full service options, i.e., providing cleanup (mitigation) and restoration (through a subcontractor). This sounded great at the time, but turned into a nightmare. The sewer line cleaning was not covered by homeowners insurance, and was very expensive in my opinion ($600). Their video inspection of the line after cleaning showed root intrusion, and they gave two quotes, one to repair, one to replace the whole line. Both were excessive (yearly maintenance annually, even at $600 a pop, for 10-yrs would be cheaper). The mitigation was completed in 4 days, including carpet and drywall removal, cleaning and disinfecting, and drying with 16+ portable fan units. The subcontractor they use for restoration, Three Rivers Builders, and their associated subcontractors, were a nightmare. It took 5 months for them to come to an agreement with my insurance company, Allstate (who themselves were not blameless in the delays). The quality of the work was generally poor, and took months longer than the original estimate of 4-weeks. Finally, work crews used materials from my garage that they did not supply, and subcontractors would damage existing conditions and/or work done by the prior contractors, and it would never be repaired. I finally kicked them out of my house and completed the "punch out" myself. I would definitely NOT recommend Roto-Rooter, particularly their restoration services performed by Three Rivers Builders."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Gaithersburg, MD

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
