"What can I say about George and Carpet Pharmacy other than praise....not a single thing. George worked with me and my busy schedule and we were able to get my bedroom and hallway carpets stretched just in time to receive my new bedroom furniture. The carpets look almost brand new like they were when they were first laid. George is very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. He even vacuumed up the carpet shavings when he was done. I highly recommend George and Carpet Pharmacy for all your carpet repair needs."

"Repairmen were timely, courteous and took their time to do the job right. They replaced padding underneath basement carpeting and stretched the rug in our bedroom. Everything was vacuumed and cleaned up after the job. James was a pleasure to work with and came to the job to look over the work done and to be sure I was satisfied with the job."

"Had Walter stretch a few areas of carpet in our hallway and bedroom that developed bumps. He was a little higher in cost than one of the other estimates But he had very good ratings. Walter was on time and professional. Besides stretching the carpeting in hallway he even fixed the seam Cleaned up after."

"Ricardo and his crew did an overall good job with my floor project. What I needed done was sanding and staining about 1200 sf of a wood floor (about 500 sf was an old floor, 700 sf was a brand new unstained floor, and a 14 step staircase). A challenge on the old floor was areas where repair were needed; some places there were holes that needed to be repaired, plus the staircase had already been shellacked by my general contractor, and I needed ricardo to strip the shellac (i think it was done by hand) and restain it. They did a fine job sanding, staining, and polyurethaning with bona mega. In hindsight, I wish I had asked for bona HD traffic but I didn't know to ask. The good things that Ricardo did: -helped me pick out a stain that I to this day really love. -recommended bona water based, and bona floor care products. -kept in good communication before the job -showed up on time -did a good job with the floor repairs -"saved" my staircase; which my GC screwed up by shellacking without asking me about staining. Ricardo's crew sanded the shellac off by hand, and did a very nice job staining it to what I wanted. -got the job done quickly, 2 and 1/2 days. -gave me some good floor care advice what did not go well, and I wasn't happy with: -an innocent mistake, but his guys left two large bags of floor sawdust from sanding on my balcony. they forgot to clean it up after they were done, and I had to haul it myself. -Ricardo never gave me my final invoice and warranty info like he promised numerous times. After the 4th attempt I just gave up trying. -never followed up with me after I expressed concerns that maybe the floor wasn't as shiny (I asked for semi-gloss) as I thought semi gloss was supposed to be. many people that have come by say the floor's really satin, not semi gloss. to this day I can't really tell. the lack of follow up after the job was done, to this day, still annoys me. I think overall the floor was done well though, but after a year and a half of experiencing it; I've convinced myself that it is probably OK. -a little sloppy on some parts of the staining job. I saw various areas where stain got onto my wall or fairly high up on the baseboards. -would have been nice if Ricardo advised me to wipe down the walls afterward; i realized many months later that the walls had a thin layer of sanding dust. Didn't realize this for a while. Overall a good job, and I think I would hire him again, but with some hesitation."

"The back story: I had the house completely redecorated in 1999.  Ceilings sheetrocked, old carpet hauled away, everything painted, new carpet installed throughout except kitchen and baths.  Over the years, the new carpet started to get wrinkles.  I didn't know there was a solution, so I lived with it.  When I had some upholstery cleaning, they recommended Carpet Pharmacy, so I called George.  George gave me an estimate and we agreed on a schedule.
George and Kevin arrived as scheduled.  They had all the professional equipment to properly tension my carpet.  The area included LR/DR, hallway and 3 BRs.  They were here for nearly 4 hours.
They worked without having to move major pieces of furniture (piano, china).  He trimmed nearly 1" off one edge of the LR/DR carpet, and smaller amounts in the hallway and BRs.  The carpet lays flat everywhere now.  Great job guys!
Good guys to work with too."

FAQs for carpet repair, refasten, or stretch projects in Islip Terrace, NY

Removing a rug costs around $0.40 to $0.50 per square foot. This includes the fee for a contractor to roll up the rug and haul it away in a vehicle for disposal or recycling. If they need to move furniture, they might charge an additional $0.25 to $0.30 per square foot of furniture.

If your carpet has minor damage—like a single area that requires stretching, patching, or cleaning—it might be less expensive to pay for carpet repair than remove and replace it. Repairing carpet costs around $210 per project.

The cost of carpet cleaning is about $190 for a three-bedroom home, so it’s a good idea to have your carpet cleaned at least once a year. But most carpeting only lasts 10 years. If your carpet is nearing the end of its life span, it might be more cost-effective to remove and replace your carpet than to clean and repair it. The average cost to install a new carpet is about $1,800.

Search our directory of carpet removal companies and services to find an affordable, screened contractor near you. All HomeAdvisor listings are vetted, reviewed, and rated by homeowners, so you can be sure to find a local pro qualified for your project. Get at least three quotes to compare prices and the timeline for your project.

Commercial carpet removal usually costs on the lower end of the carpet removal price range, around $1.10 per square foot or even less. Carpet installation contractors often offer discounted rates for larger projects, like commercial carpet removal and installation. Similarly, you might be able to negotiate a lower residential carpet removal cost if the carpet is pulled up throughout your entire home.

Most cities accept old carpets as bulk trash, but you may need to schedule a special pickup and prepare the carpet properly. Remove any nails or glue residue, cut the carpet into manageable pieces, and roll and secure them. Alternatively, you can take your old carpet to a local recycling center for a small fee, where it can be processed and repurposed.

Yes, you can remove carpet yourself if you're ready for a labor-intensive task. DIY carpet removal requires heavy lifting and tools like utility knives, pliers, and pry bars. The process is generally straightforward but time-consuming for stapled-down carpet. If your carpet is glued down or you're worried about damaging the subfloor, hiring a professional is best to ensure the job is done safely and efficiently.
