Small jobs welcome

"Tony did a lot in three days: refinished the floors in two rooms, painted, removed an old washer/dryer unit and built shelves in the alcove. We have been looking for months for someone reliable to do work on our place in Sperryville. Tac's Handy Services is the answer. We highly recommend!"

"Freddy was very professional and knowledgeable and explained that the water issues were not the result of foundation issues and explained what he could do if i wanted a dry basement. He did not try to sell me something that i did not need."

"PJ was very enthusiastic about our project and provided us with much-needed design input. We were uncertain about knocking down the wall, but PJ agreed it was a great idea and we have all been amazed by how wonderfully it opens up our downstairs. <br /> He also fell in love (figuratively speaking!) with an old oak beam, and convinced us to leave it exposed. <br /> When we were disappointed to find the brick walls of our 1850's home covered with 1920's plaster--which meant we couldn't expose the brick for our backsplash--PJ found a manufacturer of real antique brick facade for our backsplash, and it turned out magnificent. <br /> We splurged on a Viking range and hood, and after unreasonable and inexplicable delays on the delivery of the hood, PJ went to bat and Got It Done. <br /> We are over-the-moon happy with the work PJ and his team did, and I can't recommend his services enough. <br />"

"A bit pricier than other estimates we received, by their responsiveness, professionalism, courtesy, and the seriousness with which they took our concerns, made us decide to go with them. <br /> There were a number of issues that needed to be dealt with after we moved into our house, and all of them before winter set in.  Roofs had to be secured with hurricane ties or reinforced on a couple of outbuildings, trusses had to be added to our attic, fireproofing had to be added in the basement for main floor bathroom drains, flashing installed, and deck repairs made. They carved out time in their schedule, worked very hard, did not ding or dent our floors or walls, and finished all the work in about 3.5 days. <br /> There are some rooms that we would like to remodel, and we look forward to working with them in the future.  Well worth the price. <br />"

"The project started with the addition being constructed and then the new kitchen was built into the space, this included a custom 13 ft live edge maple bar – which was done my Mike. After completion of the new kitchen, the old kitchen was demolished and the new construction started. Mike was extremely helpful during the entire project – he had lots of great ideas and worked with us on getting the little details that we wanted. He helped us find the maple slab, that would later become one of the most beautiful live edge bars that I have seen, and he pointed us in the right direction for other items and contractors to get the finishing touches we were looking for (Flooring & Cabinets). Mike was the General Contractor and had a mostly great set of subs that worked for him, he also coordinated and worked with the other contractors that we hired – Stove Installation, Cabinets, and Flooring. This was an overall $250K project and yes, we will hire Mike again – we are already talking to him about finishing out our basement and another Addition (New Master Bath with steam room). It was pleasure working with Mike and I look forward to starting the new projects soon. As I said, Mike and his crews are not the fastest working folks - this project took almost a year to complete - some of this was due to weather and some was due to coordination of Mike's Sub-Contractors."

"Kenny and Mike built our 3 season sunroom. They did a fantastic job! Kenny also did other smaller jobs for us such as building a ramp with handrails, installing garden trellis and building an enclosure for our propane tanks as well as other projects. We've been very happy with TruBuilt and would definitely hire them again!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Luray, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
