"I went to Everett Carpeting because they are local and had a good reputation. When we ordered the hardwood, we had about a 2 month wait for installation. The cost of hardwood was a lot higher than compeitiors. They came a day early than planned and when we asked how long would this take; Gary, our salesman said about 3 or 4 days. Well, some days one guy came other days two men and on a another day I didn't see anyone. I was gone but came home at 2 pm and no one was there. It took about 10 days. The installation went a lot better than anticipated. Gary, salesman, put a premium on taking out the old hardwood but when the actual tear out happened it went very well. When I questioned the extra money, Gary said we had a difficult installation. In the end the floor looks Great!!! Thanks to Adam, the installer.
On the last day, a worker came in to put grout around the base of my fireplace where the hardwood butts up. He had two colors: vanilla and dark chocolate. Neither color matched. He put the vanilla color down and I asked him to remove it because it looked bad. I asked if he could get a matching color and he said "That's all they had". I was floored; for a $15K job you couldn't go to Home Depot and get a matching color. (My husband went to Home Depot, found the color and did the work).
After the workers left, I noticed a big gouge about the size of a silver dollar in my doorway from kitchen to livingroom and another hole punched into wall where they removed moulding. I calledl Gary and told him about the holes and he never said a word. It was estimated it would take $100 to fill, sand and paint two holes. I deducted the $100 from my bill and sent in a check. Gary called and wanted his $100. Ok I said. Will never do business with you again. Went to AT Frank and ordered my area rugs.
I was disappointed in the service. I am looking at the big picture and felt that Everett could care less after they have your money.

UPDATE: September 4, 2013
Tom Everett called and offered an apology for the way this situation was handled. He found out about it only after Angies List contacted the Company. I felt he was very sincere and offered $200 for the damage. I told him to send it to a local nonprofit in my name. It wasn't about the money!!!"

"
I have an "L" shaped living room and dining room. I was replacing the carpeting in the two rooms that are connected. I had all the old carpeting removed. I purchased the a carpet and it took two weeks before the carpet was delivered to the store. I asked the salesman at Home Depot about furniture moving. The salesman (Kirk) stated that I would have to pay an additional $150.00 if I had any furniture that had to be moved. I didn't have a problem paying for them to move a few piece of large furniture. I am a widow and live alone. I had emptied EVERYTHING out of my desk (which is a three piece "L" shaped design), my entertainment center (which is three separate pieces) and my curio cabinet. The only other furniture in the 492 sq ft area was a sofa, daybed frame, a two drawer file cabinet, and a three drawer side table. The two installers came in and the first thing stated to me was "why is there furniture in here? we can't install carpet with furniture. There is no way to stretch it". I explained I had paid for them to move the furniture and that they could move it all in one room while they install carpet in the other room. The one installer complained he didn't like moving furniture because of his back and that he wasn't going to touch my sectional desk. This desk was moved a week earlier by Andy's remodeling crew (a contractor I hired to handle the storm damage) with no complaints. The installer wanted to reschedule for another day when it wasn't raining and they could move all my furniture in the front yard.

I unscrewed the four bolts and MOVED the three pieces by myself while they watched. The main guy spent the next 25 minutes on the phone complaining to his boss (I assumed). Finally he said they would lay the carpet if I would "sign off" that eventually the carpet might wrinkle because BOTH rooms weren't totally empty. I didn't understand the problem because it was two separate pieces of carpet seamed where the rooms joined.

I gave in because a tornado had touched down two months earlier, destroyed my car and 7 trees were uprooted and one landed on my roof. After living in a mess for two months with people in and out of my house, I just wanted my life back to normal. BIG MISTAKE. It took about 2½ hours for them to complete the carpet installation. I wasn't feeling well at the time and then I had two family emergency's to deal with and didn't get to fully inspect the entire carpet installation. Immediately after they left I noticed they had not done transition strips on the hardwood floor and tile that lay next to the carpet. I specifically showed them the area's and told them what I expected before they started. They also cut the carpet crooked and left a triangle shaped hole in one of the corners. It was ten days later when I began to see what a terrible job that they had really done. The carpet didn't look right next to the base molding trim. Instead of installing the carpet UNDER the trim they came just up to it, leaving a gap and a RAW carpet edge showing. I literally could easily pick up the carpet by just grabbing a couple of strands of carpet. When I vacuumed the carpet moved and slightly lifted up, and forget using the vacuum edge tool because all that did was pull off carpet loops.

I caught my toe on the carpet next to the hardwood (the area is a heavy traffic area) and the edge of the carpet lifted up and one of my toes ended up on the carpet tack strip underneath. I called Home Depot and talked to Keith and was told he would see how to resolve the problem. A couple days later I received a call from a clerk at Anderson Installation (the company Home Depot hired to install the carpet) stating they would have two men come out to correct the problem in four days.

They installers came but were not prepared to fix the problems. WHY? I don't understand why they came to my house without the proper tools or shims to fix the problem areas. They left without doing anything.

The installers were awful on this job. I called and voiced my concerns for the third time. It took another house call before they finally got the job done. Anderson installers did NOT listen to my requests and should of had this job done after two separate visits. I love the carpet but would not buy it at Home depot again if they continue to use this installation company.

"

"I actually have several carpeting company information on hand at last month of 2013. based on online review and previous customer's experiences. We called Bill's carpet and trying to get the quote. They answer the phone very quick and said they can have somebody to stop by my house and estimate my basement and give us quotation... I have 2550 sqare feet house, and walk out basement. The basement probably about 1100 sqare feet. The quotation is $2500 including carpet and labor, which my husbank and I accepted. We set up the installation schedule date for two days later. And they did very nice job and very efficiancy. My husband, two kids and I are all very enjoy our new carpet and all finished basement.
"

"Chad and Kyle called and could come earlier than scheduled, and that was great for us. They wore shoe protectors when coming in and out of the house, and protected our wall corners from the air duct exhaust hose. They were extremely professional and got right to work. We could hear all the 20+ years of debris going out through the air duct hose. Not sure if previous owners of our house ever ducts cleaned before, but we're sure glad it was done right for us. After the ducts were cleaned, they got right to work on the carpet. It looked so much brighter when they were done. They used their truck mounted extraction method, and it didn't take too long for the carpet to dry afterwards. Would highly recommend! They will be our go-to cleaners in the future!"

"I went to O'Connors and Joan waited on me. She helped me choose the floor covering that would be best for me. Joan was helpful, friendly and made things easy. Mike came out and measured the room (and was also very gracious.) Gene and his team replaced the carpeting swiftly and professionally. They cleaned up after themselves down to making sure all dust was off the molding. All around great experience."

"First of all, Supreme was probably the 4th or 5th place we talked to about replacing our old carpet.
We walked into the store on a Saturday and discussed standard mid-grade carpets. When we first walked in, we looked at some of the premium soft carpet on our own. The sales person did not mention these until we asked. It turns out they were running a special on specific colors that ended up making the job almost the same price. We made it very clear that we were extremely interested and the sales person mentioned that the price was valid until they ran out of the carpet.
The deal they were running made up our minds on going with Supreme. They also had their own installers, which was important to us. Lastly, they were recommended by several friends...so we moved forward.
On Monday, we stopped back in to schedule an appointment to have someone out to measure the house and to make a down payment. The sales person we worked with was not there, but called us that evening. At that time, she mentioned that the sale was valid for Saturday only. Obviously, we expressed our discontent with this. Upon a little pushing, she extended the Saturday price to us, but required a down payment immediately. Though we were ready to do this, I was a little frustrated with how rushed this was and I was really unsure about whether or she was pulling a fast one over on us. I am still unsure about this to be honest.
We were talked out of installing the 9lb premium pad because of the superior durability of the carpet we decided on...so we'll see how that turns out.
The installers showed up at 10AM on day 1 (of 2) and got right to work. We were impressed with how much they were able to get done. They specifically asked us if there was anything that we wanted to have done first. The installers managed to get our main floor done so we could have our living room and bedroom back right away. They did not leave for the day until after 6PM, but progress was very good. Day 2, the guys showed up again around 10AM and they were managed to complete the job a bit earlier than expected.
We're thrilled with the quality of the carpet and installation so far (it's only been a few days). Other than the pressure put on us by the sales person, the job went well and we are very pleased.
"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Midland, MI

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
