"The salesperson, Mark (?), was great. Very thoughtful and generally a really nice guy. I was looking to recarpet two bedrooms - didn't want to spend a ton and didn't want anything super plush. He steered me towards some good possibilities. Shopping for carpeting can be very overwhelming. Once he came out to the house to measure, it became clear that some options would create a clearance problem with closet and bedroom doors. I am glad he noticed that because otherwise, I'd have had to have the doors removed and cut -- costing me more. The installers were prompt, polite and thorough. And very quick. Remarkably so. The only negative comment I can make is that the pad installed is not as cushion-y as I had hoped. Because of the concern about door clearance, a very thin pad was recommended. As it turns out, I could have gone with something a bit thicker, which would have been a lot better. Even the installer was surprised by the choice but at that point it was too late. <br />"

"I had a great experience here at S and G Carpet in Pleasanton! My sales associate was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. She was very patient through my selection process, and even when I changed my mind after I was certain we nailed it the first time! The installers they sent out, Jason and James, were wonderful! On time, very polite, careful not to knick freshly painted walls and they obviously worked well together. They put in carpet as well as vinyl tiles in my office and in front of my back slider door. They did a great job. Zero complaints. I would use S and G again for sure and would ask for the installers specifically! <br />"

"We couldn't be happier with Gary's work. We had hired someone else to take carpet off a staircase and replaced it with hardwood treads and a new railing, which left us with new wood at the top of the stairs and at the base of the new railing on the upper landing, and existing carpet on the rest of the upper floor that needed to be cut and fitted in around the new wood, including one complicated corner. I called a couple of carpet retailers, but their minimum installer charges started around $175, and so I decided to look further through the List to find someone who just did repairs, if possible, because that's all we needed, and lo and behold on the second page there he was. <br /> Gary came out the very next day, cut the carpet to fit beautifully, re-stretched it in numerous places to remove all the bubbles, tacked it down, and installed a shim to raise the level of the carpet where it met the wood at the top of the stairs so there is a smooth transition. After he was done with the major work he spent a lot of time tucking in or cutting off loose threads and generally making it look as neat as possible. He's a delightful guy who really knows what he's doing. His minimum charge is $100, which gets you an hour of his time. I'd recommend him enthusiastically for anyone who needs work like this done. <br />"

"It went mostly very well--from the showroom to my house, everyone was professional and pleasant. Ensure you provide plenty of time when you go in, as they can get very busy. There were a few glitches when the first carpet we picked from the showroom floor turned out to be discontinued (the samples hadn't been removed yet), and the stairwell was carpeted incorrectly from my requests with the manager--but we did get a good quality, nice looking carpet installed in good time to move in, and the stairwell carpeting was re-done quickly and at no additional charge (it was their mistake).Overall, the carpeting looks beautiful and we love it. I would recommend them again if you want nice carpeting and professional service for your home."

"Matt arrived on time, measured the areas, and got to work cleaning some very dirty places in our carpet, including stairs. He was pleasant and professional, and quick. He finished in less than 2 hours, and everything looks SO MUCH better now. He told us that everything would be dry by morning, and it was. We will have him back later in the year when we get our place ready to put on the market. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Newark, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
