"Micheal did, an AMAZING JOB. He came to my house very professional & did an assessment on what he will be doing, he gave me a good quote. Came on time to do the 3 days project. I was blown away with the work that was done. Even my husband who is not easy to please was very impress with all his work. He was very happy too. He is coming back to do a Power wash on out exterior of our house. I will definitely be referring him to my family & friends. A few of my neighbors stop by to tell us how great our deck look. I give him a 10 out of 10. Thank you Five Star Painting for your EXCELLENT WORK!!!!"

"My tile roof was over 44 year old so it was time for a new roof most of the neighbors switched from tile to singles I personally wanted to stay with tile so I received five quotes, Brent Griffith Roofing beat all of them by far he made it feasible to stay with tile I remembered I had to be patient when getting a new roof because good roofers are always busy. B. Griffith Roofing, Inc. is top quality, the best price, his crew and support staff is excellence professional hard-working. I highly recommend B. Griffith Roofing, Inc. "Joe Naples and his crew went above and beyond our expectations. The deck they constructed was beyond what we expected. They performed all their duties in a most professional and a yet very personal manner. We can't express enough of our gratitude for the job they did. We even had a follow up visit by one of his team members today just to check in and see how we were enjoying our new deck. Thank you Joe Naples and your crew for a job well done. We look, forward to working with you guys on future home projects."

"It was a very good experience. Chris was always keeping things moving along with all the subcontractors. The price for the store was very reasonable. Pasco County was difficult to please during the permitting process, and that is what took the longest amount of time. Chris kept running back and forth to the county to keep the permitting process moving. Once the permit was received (after about 5 months after application), Chris had the building built pretty quickly (about 4 months). Having never had a building built before, it was impressive to see the weekly progress. Chris was good about keeping me posted on progress through texts on what was happening at the store that particular week. I went there weekly to see progress and was pleased. The inspections went smoothly and the certificate of occupancy was received. All in all, a good experience for me. I would definitely contact Chris again if I ever need to build a bigger building for my store. You are welcome to stop by Picarzo Pianos if you are considering engaging Chris to see his work."

"Everything went great! The project took about 2 weeks. The old tar/gravel roof was removed and a new metal roof was installed on 3/4 of the house. The other 1/4 required TPO since it was a completely flat area. A lot of the old wood had to be replaced due to the age and termite activity. Flashing up around the chimney is holding up great and a part of my old rainwater collection gutter system was even reinstalled on the new roof. The fascia and soffit looks great too. We've been through 5-6 rain storms already and there has been no leaks. The wood around the garage was replaced and then the whole thing was wrapped in vinyl for a clean look. Two end features on the peak of the house were wrapped as well and it made the house look very clean and neat. As for cleanup, for the most part all went well. As can be expected, a few old roofing nails were found, but not that many. A few short pieces of metal roofing and a few leftover panels were left behind as well as a bag of screws. (We made a shed with them) Overall we were very satisfied. Other roofing companies we called were quoting us $18-20K without the addition of the extra wood and the cost of the fascia/soffit or the garage repair."
All of the doors and windows were replaced by National HomeCraft.

FAQs for deck or porch projects in North Port, FL

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
