"Grove did a great job in presenting all options for our new AC system and potential air cleaning systems (without making any aggressive sales pitches), and then did a great job with installing the new system. The new system has been in place for a few weeks now and is working very well - great job by Grove."

"I contacted Bluestar Air Mechanical for a second opinion after an appointment with Air One. I have a Carrier HVAC system, and the Air One technician recommended a complete system replacement, claiming the blower was bad, the furnace control board needed replacing, and that there were other issues. Since replacing the HVAC is a big investment, I wanted to get a second opinion. It was only after comparing the service from Bluestar that I realized Air One may have been pushing for a new system sale or lacked the expertise to properly diagnose and repair the actual problems. Isaac, the technician from Bluestar, spent about an hour thoroughly diagnosing and fixing the issues. He found burnt wiring in the furnace and discovered that the wrong capacitor had been incorrectly installed in the AC. Isaac replaced the burnt wiring in the furnace and the capacitor in the AC. After these repairs, my Carrier system was back up and running—without the need for a costly replacement. Bluestar, and Isaac in particular, demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and honesty. They focused on resolving the actual issues instead of pushing for an unnecessary system replacement. I highly recommend Bluestar for their reliable service and Isaac’s thorough and knowledgeable work."

"Professional, diligent, excellent communications and attention to detail, It's hard to find tradesmen who you can have confidence in, But Edwin has it all. We contracted Edwin's HVAC to replace our 22 year old AC system, he provided a very prompt quotation, with two other company's in the bidding one never responded the other took a week, Work was carried out 3 days after awarding the works, Edwin arrived at the door on time and without delay proceeded to remove the existing system 7hrs later the new system was in, commissioned and handed over carried out in a very professional and excellent workmanship. Ah! I didn't mention price... Edwin's quote was 2/3's that of the competitor and didn't suggest or recommend additional un-necessary work(s) Would I hire Edwin's HVAC again - Yes without a doubt..."

"I am not normally inclined to write reviews about a vendor's performance, but in the case of GAC, I am compelled by gratitude to sing their high praises.
My wife and I purchased a new older detached home in Rockville in the summer of 2014.  After receiving a variety of estimates, we settled on GAC to replace our HVAC system, which was about 25-years old.  They gave us a great deal on a mid-priced high efficiency system, and did a first class job on the installation.  But that's only the beginning of the story.
Once installed, we had GAC return to seal our ducts to maximize efficiency.  During the sealing process, they discovered that there was a major leak somewhere in our duct work.  The leak was so big they estimated we were losing about a ton of air inside our walls because of it -- one third of the energy produced by a three-ton system!  What a waste!
Uncertain of where the leaks were coming from, the president of the company -- himself a master technician -- returned to survey the ductwork using a thermal imaging gun, which detected an elevated heat signature in one of the main trunks coming off of the new furnace.  When he cut open the sheetrock, he found a 14" x 16" hole where a poorly repaired patch had given way years earlier.  He and his team also found and replaced (just for cost of materials) several poorly insulated duct pipes in the attic that were also contributing to the problem.
Now, fast forward to the summer of 2015.  While very pleased with our new HVAC system, we noticed that the second floor of the house was about 8-10 degrees warmer than the first floor -on the hottest days  -- not an uncommon problem for an older home.  So, we contacted GAC to see if there was anything they could do to improve sleeping conditions on the second floor.
Who comes out to do our semi-annual inspection and tune-up?  You guessed it -- the president of the company!!  He spends an hour tweaking things and presto -- the entire house is cool and comfy, and our energy bills are less than they were when we lived in a townhouse.
As customer experience goes, it doesn't get any better than that!
David S."

"I reached out to Angi’s to find a HVAC company to help with my AC that was blowing hot air in the summer. I got super lucky when I found MSR Heating and Cooling. They arrived on time and assessed my situation. I appreciated the time they took to explain the issue in ways I understood as well as recommend the best option for me. The estimate quote was fair and there were no surprise expenses to repair my unit. I can’t thank the owner, Moises enough for a job well done. His professionalism, knowledge and skills are reflected in the quality of work performed. I would highly recommend this company for your next repair."

FAQs for air conditioning projects in Lanham, MD

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.

Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.

Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.

Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.

Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
