"Bob, from Two by Four Construction, was one of four companies from whom we sought estimates. Bob's estimate for the work was significantly less than the other three companies, all of whom were dedicated flooring companies.  Additionally, 2 x 4 was the only company of the four who came prepared to estimate the cost of converting the stairs from carpet to hardwood, even though I was specific in my estimate request for that work. All of the others wanted to have a contractor come out separately, and they only raised that at the time of their visit to estimate the work.  So, Bob got extra points for being prepared.  Bob also provided us with ideas on selecting the riser finish. We weren't sure whether we wanted stain or white risers. Bob discussed with us and explained exactly  how they would accomplish the white risers. 
The work was accomplished over 4 days.  On day one, the guys arrived and replaced all of the upstairs carpet with hardwood, and removed all of the carpet, handrail and plywood from the stairs, taking it down to the 2 x 6's. On Day 2, The carpenters completed the stairs, and the refinish crew sanded and stained  and poly'ed the living room floor, which was away from the stairs.  On day 3, they returned and applied the finish coat of polyurethane. After inspection, we decided that the living room stain was a slightly lighter shade than the surrounding floors, so we asked Bob to darken the floor. He had the crew out here today and they restained it with a darker stain to better match the other floors. 
Two By Four Construction did an outstanding job on all three parts of the job, including the upstairs replacing carpet with hardwood, converting the stairs from carpet to hardwood with white risers, and refinishing the living room floor.
 We are very pleased with the quality of the work, the teams were very responsive, prompt, courteous, and left the house in immaculate condition.

"Was impressed with the work: they did drywall repair and prep before painting. They redid work that another contractor had poorly done. Also, they demo and installed ceramic tile in bathroom. They took their time and delivered a finish product that was skillfully done and more affordable and two other estimates. Glad I went with Jose and his handyman crew. Will use again.

"Excellent services and value. The difficulty was we were replacing the existing out of code stairs with stairs in code on a split-level home. All other carpenters told us the bottom stairs would have to extend past the wall on the bottom floor, which would create a tripping hazard. Paul looked at the work, then recommended a way to repair the stairs without making it noticeable or extending past the bottom wall. The advantage of Paul was he saw the problem and immediately knew how to correctly fix it, and it looks perfect. Without his insight, we would have been stuck with something that didn't look go and making me mad we even had it done. Plus the wife threw in those little extras as she does and Paul handled them without delay. My mistake was not having him also do the landing, but now I definitely know who to call for this job. If you want the job done right and leave behind a high quality finished product, he's who you should call. Oh, and the installation was very difficult due to our schedules, but Paul worked around us, got all the information he needed and installed the stairs within 1-day. Now, I look forward to going up and down the stairs, plus, it really added value to our home!!!"
