"Jeff was excellent to work with, provided excellent advice and did an excellent job replacing our countertop and installing a new back splash. As the former manager of the Consumer Services Division for the Minnesota Attorney General's Office I have had the opportunity to deal with many contractors I only wish they were all like Jeff."

"Brian was great! I had floor to ceiling old sliding closet doors in two bedrooms. Brian came to my house and measured my closets to make sure I got the right size. I ordered mirrored closet doors as replacements. Brian then came back to my house, took out the old doors and installed the new ones. What a job. Both sets of doors were large and unwieldly, but Brian and his assistant were careful - nothing in my house was damaged. Then they hauled everything away! Price was very affordable and I am happy with their work. I would hire them again."

"I had a remodel of kitchen and living room that included installation of new appliances, new countertops, new backsplash, removal of lamenant and carpeted floors, replaced with wood flooring, restoration of bay window, steps, painting, and installation of new lighting fixtures and ceiling fan. The process took a little longer than originally planned but the end result exceeded expectations. For the countertop and backsplash I was connected to an individual at The Tile Shop that assisted me my selection. The backsplash work when it was installed was exceptional. The space between the tiles was what was communicated with me and what my expectations expected. The countertops were also installed well. The only thing I wish I personally would have done differently would have been to place something in the cabinets under where the countertop was being installed because it was a little dustier than I was expecting when the work was completed. We ran into an issue with the ceiling fan and it was due to the fact that the fan I selected required a box be built into the ceiling. The issue was communicated clearly with me and it also addressed a concern that I had expressed at the outset, since my prior ceiling fan seemed unsecure. I had selected a solid wood color for the flooring and while Bernie was supportive of my home my choice he explained that because it was soft wood, scratches would be more pronounced. He ended up suggesting a different stain and wood that I went with and was absolutely pleased with. The bay window had seen better days and had some water damage. The restoration of this area was nothing short of a miracle. It looked brand new and perfectly matched the trim that was already around the windows. The last item that I would like to mention is the lights that were installed. I had water damage in one socket because it was previously installed incorrectly. This was fixed completely with the installation and I haven't had any issues since. The workmanship of the entire project was outstanding."

"Michael did an incredible job rebuilding my deck! It's rock-solid and looks fantastic. I had a specific look in mind, and he really took the time to explore different ideas that matched what I wanted while staying within my budget. He was a huge help with the city permits and handled any surprises from the inspections like a champ. I'm already thinking about future projects to team up with Michael again—I can't wait!"

"We had an outstanding experience working with Lance and his team at SCS Builders & Remodelers. From start to finish, Lance was incredibly involved, responsive, and easy to work with. He communicated clearly, stayed on top of every detail, and made the entire process feel smooth and manageable. What really set him apart was his honesty and guidance. He helped us understand where it made sense to invest a little more for long-term quality, and where we could save without sacrificing the overall look or durability. That kind of transparency is hard to find and made a big difference for us. The craftsmanship from his team was excellent—everything was done with care and attention to detail, and the finished result exceeded our expectations. On top of that, his pricing was very reasonable for the level of quality and service we received. We would absolutely recommend Lance and SCS Builders & Remodelers to anyone looking for a trustworthy, skilled contractor. We couldn’t be happier with h"

FAQs for countertop and backsplash service projects in Hastings, MN

Butcher block countertops come in three main styles, each offering a unique look and function. Flat grain, also known as face grain, showcases the natural wood patterns, giving your kitchen a modern and elegant appearance. Edge grain is made from long, narrow wood strips, making it sturdy and providing a consistent grain pattern. End grain features a checkerboard pattern that is highly durable and perfect for heavy food preparation. Each style caters to different aesthetic preferences and usage needs, enhancing your kitchen's look and functionality.

With proper care, wood countertops can last anywhere from 20 to 100 years. To keep yours looking like new, clean up spills immediately and reseal the surface regularly—ideally once a month in the first year, then twice a year after that. Regular maintenance helps preserve the wood's beauty and durability for decades.

Wood countertops aren't hard to maintain if you keep up with regular care. Simply clean them with mild soap and water after use and reseal them monthly during the first year (then twice a year afterward). Using a food-grade oil or sealant protects the wood from damage. With a bit of routine maintenance, your countertop will stay beautiful and durable.

Wood countertops are sanitary with proper care and maintenance. By sealing them with a food-grade sealant and cleaning them regularly with mild soap and water, you create a barrier that prevents bacteria from getting into the wood. Always dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning to keep it hygienic and safe for food prep.

It's best to oil raw wood countertops once a month during the first year. After that, you can oil them twice yearly to keep them in good shape. If your countertop is professionally stained or sealed, you might not need to oil it as often. Regular oiling helps prevent drying and cracking, preserving the wood's natural beauty and durability.
