"Campbell services provided me timely excavation of driveway. His crew were professional and courteous. I was pleased with the time they took in making sure the mess was cleaned to my satisfaction along with taking extra care to preserve the existing landscape. I only wish other companies would adopt that type of work ethic."

"Humberto is a very creative problem solver! Personable and definitely interested in customer satisfaction, so spends time understanding the full scope of the problem. The problem was the subterranean north wall of the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo that was far from being waterproof, especially with the rains last winter. Castaneda dug out the soil next to the wall, pressure washed it and applied two coats of DryLok and then a layer of Henryâ s waterproofing. Then Humberto installed a French drain and then a big pipe to route the water off of five downspouts. To get the correct drainage slope, more excavating needed to be done than anticipated. Removed five landscaped trees and lots of concrete that was in the way of the drains which were to be routed under city sidewalks."

"Ike gave me a fair price for excavating tough rock and sandstone. Nick did and excellent job throughout the process, was extremely helpful and informative. The 2 are not done and still going to truck in 100 yards or so of fill dirt and possibly some topsoil offering to also grade it after dumped! Works with you if any complications arise. Would hire again."

"I requested a plumber to replace/repair a leaking outdoor faucet. Harry responded to my request and repaired the faucet on a Sunday! Courteous and professional work. As an added project I told him I wanted to replace an existing toilet in a downstairs bath. We went together to Home Depot to purchase a replacement (per his recommendation), which he then installed the same afternoon! Harry will be my first call for any future plumbing work."

FAQs for excavation projects in Orinda, CA

Depth depends on the type of installation and the regulations in your area. Water supply lines typically require 24 inches, while drainage pipes are often installed 36 inches below grade. For most general projects, a depth of 12 to 24 inches and a width of about eight inches is sufficient. Sticking to these specs keeps your utilities safe, code-compliant, and easier to maintain later.

When you need to run utilities underground, you’ve got two main options: boring or trenching. Boring employs directional drilling to install utilities without exposing a continuous channel, while trenching requires excavating an open channel to place utilities securely. Directional drilling preserves landscape integrity, whereas trenching provides direct access for installation, albeit with greater surface disruption. This clear comparison helps you select the method best suited to your project.

Plan on 12 hours to dig 100 linear feet when the soil is cooperative and you can work continuously. This timeframe applies when work is performed consistently and methodically. Factors such as rocky soil, tree roots, obstructions, and frozen ground increase the overall duration, demanding extra planning and effort. Comprehensive operational planning ensures that every challenge is managed efficiently and the project is completed on schedule.

If you want your yard to look untouched, laying fresh sod over the trench is the quickest fix. New sod needs 30 to 45 days to root and blend with the rest of your lawn. A local sod pro can provide you with a firm timeline and tips to ensure the grass takes hold and maintains your curb appeal.
