"Jim, the owner, was on the job working and it shows that he takes great pride in his work to ensure total customer satisfaction. Jim and his crew were professional and courteous. Pricing was fair considering the scope of work and time needed for the job. Cleanup after job completion was perfect. I cannot say enough to express my total satisfaction with Michener Chimney and Masonry. Like with many jobs, scope can change with additional items (initiated by the home owner) as the job progresses. Jim was extremely fair with price adjustments during the job with clear and concise communication. It is not often that you find a real gem for a Contractor like this. I am considering some additional masonry work later this year, and they will be my first choice!"

Customers say: True professional

"Russ arrived one day and we made an appointment for him to do the masonry work needing done. When he and his crew arrived they went to work and made a different repair than I thought was going to be done bt it was the only way to do it and we were completely satisfied with his work and would hire him again without question."

"The 3 Rivers Brick Pointing & Cleaning team was professional and did excellent work at my house from beginning to end! The in-person, email, text, and phone calls needed to estimate and set up the work were timely and responsive. Dorin, Jimmy, Gerad, and Lamar did excellent work cleaning and pointing my bricks. They were punctual, orderly, and respectful. I was impressed that they left the work areas so clean considering they were removing old debris and prepping/applying mortar. The cost of the work was a fair amount. We have a plan for them to continue to repair more bricks at my house soon. I highly recommend them! Candice"

"Roof was 25 years old, siding was wood, 50 years old, and recently attacked by woodpeckers. Soffit and fascia was all wood, with pealing paint and some wood rotting (in need of serious action). Mr. Tegge recommended new roof and gutters/spouts, update/replacement of fascia and soffit. A porch column was rotting at base, due to water damage some years ago, and he recommended replacing both. He took us around to several of his jobs, and showed us siding examples on homes, which really helped in choosing the one that worked for us. We got other estimates; based on reputation and proposals, we chose him, even though his price was somewhat higher. The roof was done by a large crew in two days, just before the July rains began. The remainder was worked on as quickly as possibly in between the rain storms. The results were outstanding, well worth the additional expense. Mr. Tegge (Home Crafters owner) visited the site frequently to check on progress/issues with his foremen and crews. The guys on the crews were great - hard working, highly competent, well informed, very responsive to inquiries, and really nice. One couldn't ask for better. Overall, this is a gem of a company. I will use them again (we have more work to do), and have already recommended them to neighbors and friends.

"

We called Omnipro in March to get an estimate on a new patio. They came out that week. We agreed on the layout of the patio and the price. We were told at that time appx the end of May for them to come out. The week before they were do I called the company to see if they were running on schedule, (due to all the rain we had been having). I was told they are about a week behind schedule, which was fine, we understood, can't compete with mother nature. It ended up being two week instead of one, they started the job on Monday June 15th. Wednesday June 17th we had our new patio, which we LOVE. They still had to come back out to put the sand down in between the stones. The actual job wasn't completely finished until Thursday June 25th.

They were great to work with, and open to when we changed the design a little to accommodate a table and chairs (we had them add a circle section) and an extra section for our grill.

We will definitely use them again in the future.

"Jason started the job later than originally planned but I was patient because I knew I had some additional work to be done along with the original bathroom renovations.   The old fixtures and the hideous aged marlite were removed in good time and the replacement of the new fixtures were determined in no time with my approval. The tub was rearranged to allow for more light from the only window. The previous bathroom had a makeshift cupboard made of plywood that had blocked the window. I joked with Jason that I had the world's ugliest bathroom and he politely agreed. I had the daisy flower adhesive marks on the front of the tub from the 60's. I could never get those marks off. After the new tub went in, the new wall board and floor board went up pretty fast with precision. Why Jason struggled with the old plumbing, his brother Brian worked on the outer room prying off the old plywood that was glued in place. Brian did a lot of the preparation labor and cutting of wood, tile and such. Jason laid the porcelain tile around the shower area above the tub and the floor, the painting was done. I chose a color called Undersea-a darker color than I would normally have picked but was encouraged to go with something that would bring out the contrasting bright white trim and tilework. I was a bit leery when Brian started painting but now that it is done and the trim is in-I love it. Even my friend that is forever painting walls white and more white loves it. The finishing touches are now on me but it can only be good with the solid basics. We chose the oil rubbed bronze and they really look great with the turquoise like colored walls and the bright white trim around the walls.     He hung a new door for the bathroom and also for the entryway next to the bathroom.  That door was a constant struggle every summer when the wood swelled.   Now I have a new steel door with a window panel in it and yet more light that will be enjoyed by all especially my plants.

FAQs for fireplace and wood stove service projects in Scottdale, PA

Start with a professional inspection. If damage is limited to a few bricks or the crown, a targeted repair helps keep costs and disruption to a minimum. Severe leaning, widespread mortar failure, or major fire damage usually signals it’s time for a complete teardown and rebuild. Your contractor will outline both price tags, but remember that rebuilding a failing stack is often cheaper than repeated patch jobs and the water leaks or fire hazards they allow.

Cracks provide water with an easy path into the masonry, weakening the bricks and mortar and increasing the risk of collapse or fire. Gaps can also let hot gases and sparks escape into attic spaces. Call a chimney pro as soon as you see cracking so they can seal small joints or recommend a larger rebuild before minor damage turns into a costly emergency.

Smoke rolling back into the room often indicates a blocked flue, a broken damper, or a drafting issue. Have a sweep inspect the damper, flue liner, and any obstructions right away. Most fixes involve clearing debris, repairing the liner, or adjusting the damper so the fireplace pulls air correctly. Don’t light another fire until a professional pinpoints the cause and confirms your system is venting safely.

Most policies cover chimney repairs caused by a sudden, covered event, such as lightning, a fallen tree, or a house fire. They won’t cover damage that stems from neglected maintenance or everyday wear. Review your policy or contact your agent before scheduling work to determine what documentation your insurer requires and what costs you will be responsible for.

Component life spans vary. Clay tile or cast-in-place liners last close to 50 years, while stainless-steel liners last 15 to 20 years. Mortar requires attention every 25 to 30 years, while crowns last 50 to 75 years. Use these numbers as a maintenance roadmap: schedule regular inspections, budget for future upgrades, and replace parts before age-related cracks develop into more significant problems.
