We were extremely happy with the process from beginning to end. We had several other companies come out and we saw a difference right away with the inspector's approach and knowledge. Since we've never done this type of project before we didn't know what to expect from the crew during the installation. The foreman showed up on time as scheduled and was very considerate of our situation. They helped me cover up some of our stored items to protect it from dust installed a full drain system around the perimeter or our basement and made it look easy to jack hammer and haul out so much concrete and debris. Within 3 days our basement was fully restored and dry again. Since then we've had several heavy rain storms and we couldn't be happier with how everything works just like the inspector originally showed us. Definitely a 5 star operation and relieved when I didn't get a really high price at first then lower prices each time I said I'd think about it. Basement Systems gave us a competitive price up front and we didn't have to listen to another story of how he would give me some magical deal only if I gave them a deposit for the job at that very moment. Spending almost $8500 for a home repair was a huge deal for us and we appreciate the other reviews we read on Home Advisor, Thanks!!

I needed outdoor drains to help with pooling in our yard, caused by sump pump drainage. Robert came and did a consult, and he was able to give me a quote right away. He was very thorough and explained the entire process. The job took 2 days. All of the workers were very professional. They installed the drains with minimal disruption to the yard and grass. Since the installation, I’ve had no pooling in the yard. They did a great job!

We interviewed a number of contractors for this big project. We needed the foundation completely redone in half of our house due to water damage, rotting floor joists, and extensive mold damage. Evol was the only contractor who wanted to do things properly and officially by working with the county on getting permits even though it would be a much more time-consuming process for him. He was honest with us about our options and never pressured us into taking a more expensive route. In one room of our house, we ended up pouring concrete instead of rebuilding the wooden floor joists because Evol was worried the same type of water damage would continue to happen to us over the years if we elected to go with wooden joists again. Most of the other contractors we spoke with didnâ t want to give us a concrete option because they knew it would be a more time-consuming endeavor for them. We are very happy now that we went with the concrete option. Evol communicated with my husband and me throughout the entirety of the project and answered all of our questions promptly. When we moved back into the house he gave us ample opportunity to inspect everything and notify him of anything that needed fixing. The concrete crew ended up getting concrete on a set of our vertical blinds that couldnâ t be remedied. Evol fixed this by allowing us to select a brand new set for installation on his dime. We are very happy with the work that was done for us and are glad that we chose Ejale Group for the job.

In January of this year, my wife and I decided we needed to transform our finished basement to an inhabitable living area. That would require adding a bathroom and an egress window for â emergency escapeâ . We hired a contractor for the bathroom and began the research on egress windows. As we were anxious to move ahead ASAP, I began contacting companies that installed egress windows. We had a couple of reps come out, look at our basement, discuss the process and quote prices. Estimates ranged from $8000 to $12000. Most had 2 things in common. 1} They could not schedule the job until somewhere in May or June as â windowsâ wouldnâ t be available until then. 2) Any â finishingâ work (necessary sheet rock and trim) would be extra as they did not do that. In March, I happened upon a copy of a regional advertising magazine (Clipper) which came in our mail. In it was an advertisement for â Basement Gurusâ . Since we still hadnâ t made a commitment for the work, I gave them a call. After discussing the job with them, I came to conclusion to go with â Basement Gurusâ . There were five reasons why I made this decision. 1) It appeared to me, based on reviews, the company had a good reputation. 2) The fact that they had windows in stock. This would move job completion date up significantly over what I had been told by at least three other companies. 3) The price. 4) Excavation would be done manually eliminating the possibility of damage to my neighborâ s lawn. 5) Sheetrock and finishing included. Our egress window project (install/follow up sheetrock/trim) was completed on time. Three workers came to our home for the install. They completed the window in three days. Very efficient, professional. Our township inspector came out a few days later and said â all looked goodâ . Also, John the sheetrock/trim person told me he had done a number of egress finishes. He said this one, as opposed to some heâ d seen, looked really good. The sheetrock and trim was completed in one day. An egress window is a big job. They make alterations to your homeâ s foundation! All in all, Basement Gurus did an awesome job! We now have a really nice â livableâ basement adding significant value to our home. Basement Gurus gets my full recommendation!

Tony was top rate. I felt I could leave my household in his capable hands. He guided me through the entire installation process and helped me to visualize exactly what would be done. Needless to say it was done exactly as he said. The workers were very considerate of my home, the grass and keeping my living spaces clean and free from any dust. Now that the work is all done, I am anxiously waiting for the first hard rain to see how it works! Thanks Tony for being so patient with me and for doing such an excellent job. I will high recommend your company to anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is a foundation in a house?

+

A house’s foundation is always located under the house itself. A foundation is the load-bearing portion of a home and is usually built below ground, though different types are built at different locations under a home. For instance, a basement foundation is built at least eight feet deep into the ground under the house to create living space below the ground level of the home. A crawl space foundation is built under a shallow trench beneath your home—typically between two and five feet deep. A slab foundation, also known as a monolithic or monoslab foundation, simply lays flat against the ground under your home. Pier and beam foundations also rest on the ground, but elevate the home using piers, typically about two feet off the ground.

What are the types of foundations for homes?

+
  • Basement Foundations: Also called a full basement foundation or a daylight basement, a basement foundation is one of the most popular types of foundations. One of the appeals of a basement foundation is that it offers additional living space under the home. A daylight basement typically includes windows to let natural light into the space. This type of foundation allows for homeowners to maximize the footprint of their home by offering a finished living space.
  • Concrete Slab Foundations: Also called a slab, monolithic, or monoslab foundation, this type of foundation is essentially a poured concrete slab that rests on the ground under your home. It’s typically one single piece and is relatively easy and inexpensive to build.
  • Crawlspace Foundations: This type of foundation provides just enough space under a home for a person to crawl around in to access plumbing or wiring, or store equipment such as a furnace.
  • Wood Foundations: These types of foundations are less common, though they were a popular choice in the mid 20th-Century. A wood foundation is typically made of pest and mold-resistant wood, like cedar or redwood. They are easy to install, though they aren’t as long-lasting as concrete foundations. Wood foundations are not ideal for climates that see a lot of rain and snow, as they must be built on very dry soil.
  • Pier and Beam Foundations: These foundations, which are common in coastal areas, use piers and beams to lift a house off the ground. Also known as pier and post or pier and pile foundations, the aim of pier and beam foundations is to support a home that is built on sand or soil that is prone to flooding, erosion, or ground shifts. A structural engineer needs to oversee the building of a pier and beam foundation to ensure its structural integrity.

How much does a foundation repair cost?

+

The typical cost to repair a foundation is between $2,200 and $7,500, though most homeowners pay around $4,800. The price of a foundation repair depends on the extent of damage. Major repairs that require the use of hydraulic piers can cost $10,000 or more, while minor cracks can run as low as $500. Fixing a leaky foundation by sealing it costs between $2,300 and $7,300.

What is the strongest foundation for a house?

+

Concrete foundations that are reinforced with steel plinth and beams are considered to be the strongest type of foundation—especially on lots with loose or muddy soil. This type of foundation uses a reinforced concrete beam built between the wall and the foundation. Homes built in areas that are prone to flooding or earthquakes also benefit from a foundation that contains steel plinth and beams.
