Small jobs welcome

"Out water heater wasn't heating properly. We called Nick and he came out promptly and diagnosed the problem. He did some research and gave us bids on fixing it versus a new install. Since the water heater was 17 years old, we opted to get a new one. Nick was courteous and professional in all respects. He also gave us advice on fixing a crack in our fiberglass tub. We were very pleased with his work and would recommend him highly. Thanks, Nick, we will be calling you again!"

"I had Bath Planet convert my bathtub/shower into a walk-in shower. It went great - from the salesman, James Allbee, to the time frame of the job being performed after the sale to the date completed (3 weeks); and the most praise goes to the installer, AJ (last name unknown), the man who did all of the hard work. He did it alone and in one day. He did an amazing job. He arrived first thing, a little after 8, and was done by 5:30 p.m. I did provide for him, my garage so that he had a place to work and cut material, etc. He had his own heater and work table in there and could close the garage if he needed or wanted. He first removed my glass sliding doors, then removed the shower walls, removed the dry wall so that the 2x4's and insulation were exposed to be able to get to the pipes and plumbing, and then replace all of that, including the drain all the way down to the main cast iron pipe or stack in the basement. He next broke up the porcelain covered cast iron bathtub with a rubber sledgehammer - removed all of the debris and hauled that stuff out in trash bags or carried out the large pieces and put in his work van. He then put in new wood or greenboard I believe it is called for the new walls and put a section on the floor where the tub used to be, before placing in the new basin. AJ also extended the pipe for the shower head so that it now is higher than it was, which was much appreciated and I didn't even have to request he do that but I love that it is up higher now. He next put up the lovely madeira granite acrylic that extends all the way up to my ceiling. He installed all the fixtures that I purchased as I showed him where I wanted the shelves and safety bars installed. He then installed the tall glass shower sliding doors and did the final things such as putting the silicone sealant where it needed to be applied. He cleaned up after himself. I am so pleased and absolutely LOVE my new shower. I feel like I am showering in a fancy hotel."

"I hired Leak Geek thru Angies list I thought. He was the only plumber available that was left. I called him and he came out the same day. He asked what was wrong with my kitchen pipes. I explained and showed him the problem. He said he knew exactly how to fix it and how much it would cost. He went to work and fixed it perfectly in probably 20 minutes. I had previously had hired a handyman and another plumber that wasnâ t licensed and they both tried fixing the problem, but ended up with a broom holding the pipe up down the basement. That didnâ t wrk either. The Leak Geek moved the pipe back in place and told me we didnâ t need the broom anymore. Anyway, I am very, very happy, to finally have it fixes right. No more buckets under the sink or brooms holding up pipes. I would highly recommend him and call him if I have any problems."

"5 Star did a great job on our on suite shower replacement in one day! Didn’t think it was possible! Took everything down to studs and replacement went in smoothly. True craftsmanship and they did an excellent job on post installation cleanup! We had one issue with a leaking shower control valve post installation and they replaced the valve no questions asked. Project was expensive but I would certainly recommend them for the same type of work!"

FAQs for plumbing projects in Altoona, IA

Schedule a plumbing inspection every one to two years to ensure your system is in good working order. Regular inspections can help you catch minor issues before they become costly problems, like major water damage repairs. You should also consider a plumbing inspection when buying or selling a home or if you notice signs of a plumbing issue. Staying proactive with maintenance can save you money and stress in the long run.

A plumbing inspection for a standard one-story to two-story home takes between two and three hours. For larger residences, historic homes, or rental complexes, a complete inspection requires a full-day commitment of eight hours. However, this does not account for any necessary repairs that your plumber might find, so it’s best to set aside additional time during the inspection in case an unexpected repair comes up.

When built with quality materials, your plumbing system endures for decades. CPVC, brass, iron, and steel provide reliable service for 50 to 70 years, while copper extends durability up to 100 years, and PEX maintains performance for 80 to 100 years. Maintaining this system with regular inspections and prompt repairs guarantees long-term efficiency.

You should repipe your home when your plumbing exceeds its expected lifespan or uses hazardous materials like lead, polybutylene, or galvanized steel. Persistent leaks, corrosion, and compromised water quality signal that your existing piping no longer meets safety standards. Repiping eliminates potential health risks and prevents extensive water damage.
