"We purchased the home a month before all of our electrical issues started. Come to find out that water was following the main wire into the panel, and moisture was building behind the breakers. We found the problem when a circuit became overloaded, and the breaker didn't trip, causing the wire to overheat and almost cause a serious fire inside the wall void and drop ceiling. We started calling all the local services, and that's when we found Alex and the crew of Princeton Electrical Makeover (PEM). Even during the great pandemic (COVID-19) of 2020, PEM was responsive, professional, reasonable, and safe when coming into our home. Alex, the owner of PEM, took our call and immediately made us feel at ease. He asked us the right questions to start diagnosing the issues and even agreed to come out and look at it himself (now that's a great owner/operator). When Alex arrived, the same day we called, he wore a mask, gloves, and even shoe covers to keep the home clean and germ-free. When he realized the severity of the situation and our need for immediate service, he agreed to do the work immediately and called in some backup. Before we knew it, the house was back and running in one day. He and his crew found multiple burnt wires and a circuit that wasn't operating as intended. "I recently moved into a condo that hadn't been very well maintained. I have forced hot air heat and central air with an EAC and humidifier. The air conditioning wasn't reaching the second floor while the basement and first floor were cool. I had the ductwork cleaned to eliminate that possiblity.

 I called Arctic Air to have the heating and AC checked and serviced if needed. The person who took my call (no name given) told me that they were doing heating turnups this time of year. I explained what I wanted the systems checked and was told that there would be a $135. service charge for the first hour and $45. for each 15 minutes thereafter. I agreed and an apointment was made for 9/19.

The technician arrived on time. I explained about the air conditioning, the ducts and that the filters in the EAC were too dirty to clean and needed to be replaced. The technician cycled the heat and AC on, examined the furnace and the AC unit, and removed the filters and ion units from the Electronic Air Cleaner. We had a discussion about the pros and cons of the EAC versus a media filter. He told me that everything was operating normally and that the filters in the EAC shouldn't affect the air distribution to the second floor. He recommended  that I should either replace the EAC with a media filter or get new filters for it. The EAC was left unplugged and with the filters and ion units out of the housing at this point.

After the technician left I found the manuals for the heating and AC and ordered new filters on line, having decided that I would like to stay with the EAC for the benefits of cleaner air. I needed to measure the filters and afterwards replace the filters and unit back into the EAC housing. Following the instructions in the manual I plugged the unit back in, started the heat and fan and checked the EAC. It was not operating.

I called  Arctic Air, spoke to the same person as for the appointment, and asked for the technician to give me a call. When the techincian called I asked if the EAC was operational when he did his check and he said he didn't know. He then told me how to go about plugging it in and turning the switch on. I told him I had done this and he suggested that these units were prone to a failure of one of the electrical relays and were very expensive to repair. He said that the unit would work without the ion unit and just the filters. I then asked if he had checked the humidifier. He said he hadn't but then described to me how to change the screen in the unit.

I'm going to see how the heating season goes and then proceed from there. I won't use Arctic Air again and won't recommend them. Based on the reports on Angie's List they may be fine for larger jobs, but I don't feel they met my needs."
