Customers say: Quality work

"Tom Phelps and his crew did a great job replacing the front door, surrounding door frame and replacing the wood rot around the base of the front door. The men in Tom's crew were courteous and careful in their work and expedited the repairs as quickly as possible. They left the project work in a clean and excellent condition."

"My wife and I went through an exhaustive search for a granite counter top installer while doing our long-anticipated kitchen remodel this fall. Just for Granite was the clear choice after having our initial meeting with Pete. He had many options for us to choose from, and upon supplying him with a print of our cabinet layout and selecting the style of stone we wanted, he was able to give us a quote in minutes- and even better, the final invoice matched the quote! This is a big deal if you've done a major remodel, and had your contractor coming back to you twice a week asking for more money than the original quote. Pete came out to measure for the tops once all cabinets were set, had us pick our own slabs and we were able to lay out the individual pieces on the slabs at his fab shop. His guys doing the install were there when he said they would be (again a relief), and did a terrific job. We have a very old home (read- walls that aren't straight or square) but you can't tell a bit from the great install they did. A special thanks to the installers as they explained all the steps to their process to me so I knew exactly what was going on at all times, and towards the end of the job the guys that weren't busy finishing up the tops were busy cleaning up behind the others, so our kitchen was actually cleaner after they left than before. All around awesome service and product, start to finish!"

"Mark was great to work with throughout this project. One thing that stands out is that whenever you call he always answers. I called him several times throughout the time his team was doing the install and I never once went to voicemail. He's personable and knows his stuff when it comes to windows. Our install had it's share of challenges during and after the install but Mark was committed to providing a quality installation and never once suggested that anything that had to be done wasn't included in his original quote. Overall I know that Legacy Window & Door stands by the quality of their product and I'm very happy with it.
Mark came out to the house to take a look at the basement and the exterior of the house to get an idea of our basement structure and size as well as what the exterior looked like for digging the window wells. He came out on a Friday and I had the quote by mid-day on Monday. Once we agreed to pricing and windows it took a few weeks to get the windows in because they had to be ordered custom along with the well materials.
Once the windows came in he had a team out to dig the wells. It took a team of three guys a couple of days to dig a 6'x5'x6' well (Indiana clay isn't soft). Unfortunately, it started to rain while they were digging which lead to them not quite digging the wells as deep or as wide as was needed. The day for cutting in to the concrete to create the windows came and he came out personally to make the wells deeper and wider so the cutting could begin.
Indiana Concrete Cutting handled cutting the holes in to our 8" think poured concrete basement walls. They did a great job and I would highly recommend them for any concrete cutting needs.
Afterwards, there were challenges with getting the concrete blocks hauled away but Mark was able to contract a guy to do it.
The window installation itself happened quickly and I'm very happy with the finished product.
Unfortunately, a few weeks after the installation happened we had a few days of heavy rain in Indiana (2-3 inches over a weekend) and the window wells ended up flooding and leaking in to the basement (fortunately we hadn't insulated or drywalled the basement yet so no damage was done. I called Mark on a Sunday, he answered and had someone out first thing the next morning to dig the window wells deeper and insert a drain to the bottom of the basement wall where it can drain in to the sump pit. Mark stood by the warranty and I wasn't charged anything for having the drain installed. I was disappointed that this happened and that the drain wasn't installed from the beginning but Mark was a true professional about it.

"We live in Zionsville, which is where owner Rob is based. Rob was responsive and trustworthy. He knew how to handle the insurance side of the problem. Rob's crew, including Jimmy, who handled much of the finish work, was great. Jimmy constructed a built-in that has transformed our basement. What started as an incredible downer in terms of flooding ended up just fine, thanks to R&R. We would recommend R&R for any restoration issues, especially if you live in or around Zionsville."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Alamo, IN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
