"Retired contractor here; chatted with a half-dozen companies about re-screening our 20-year old 2nd storey back porch and John w/Presto Screens was the only one that didn't list all the reasons he couldn't do what I asked. Dude is one hard working fellow and does excellent work. Very fair pricing and good communication. Highly recommended."

"I would recommend this company to anyone needing glass repair. We had window glass replaced that had broken seals resulting in foggy windows. They were professional and got the job done right after the ordered glass arrived. I will use them again if needed."

"Sliding door unable to move for years. Dexter was the only technician that came and was able to repair. He fixed some damaged wood. Change rollers and made a few adjustments. The door felt like new. Very professional, communicated thoroughly and got the job done. We have some window work to do and we will be having him back to do the work. I can’t forgot to mention his prices are better than every company I’ve ever had out to my home "

"I had my siding and balcony washed. The pressure was adjusted for each type of surface. The windows were also washed. I have a 3 level single family home and it was hard to get to some very tall heights. Mariano was easy to work with. The rate was fair for the size and height of the residence. He even provided some tips for regular upkeep."

"I called Marvin from 3B after my previous contractor was under massive delays and majorly over budget. I noticed Marvin was less of a fast talker and more calm and composed about his demeanor. I really liked this about him as in my experience contractors that spend more time talking end up not delivering. Our project required removal of support walls, over 5,000 sq ft renovations, new floors, bathrooms, kitchen, drywall, paint, trim, stairs, ceiling, insulation, siding, windows, doors, etc. Essentially a new build construction style gut. He was excellent with managing budget, time and delivered custom high quality."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Alexandria, VA

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
