"5tars Excellent Service- Richie and Chris were awesome. I recently hired Mr. Handyman to repair some damaged vinyl siding on my house, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. From the moment I contacted them the communication was as prompt and professional. The quote was fair. Richie arrived on time, was friendly and clearly experienced. He assessed the issue quickly and completed the repair with great attention to detail. The siding looks as good as new - you can’t even tell it was replaced. I really appreciated the efficient, high quality work and clean up afterwards. I highly recommend Mr. Handyman to anyone needing home repairs. I’ll definitely be calling them again for future projects. CJ"

"Taylor’s Windows staff worked efficiently and replaced all our old windows and doors in a day and a half. The new windows we ordered were their top quality vinyl, with half screens that can be used up or down, are very energy efficient, and tilt in for easy cleaning. The windows are made at their Greenville, SC plant, and took about 8 weeks from time we ordered until installed. The doors came primed in a frame, and we also had interior door wood casings replaced. Their staff were efficient, professional, and were careful with our home (both inside and outside) during installation. We have noticed a big difference in keeping house draft free and warmer, and are very happy so far with our purchase. The outside appearance of house is much improved."

"This was the first time we have used their services. My dislike was that it did take awhile. It was not real quick. I think we had to leave it there for three or four days or even a week. The turn around time was long. That was the main dislike, but other than that, there were no any dislike. Everything else was fine. The screen did come lose at one point. We had to take it back in and they did repair it for free again. That was real quick. That was a quick turn around. We would recommend them. We do use them for a lot of other things. They are very convenient and easy to use in our neighborhood."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Asheville, NC

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
