"Captain Squeegee did an excellent job with everything he did for me at my home. He was dependable, punctual, self-sufficient, and completely respectful of my home and my property. My windows sparkled after he had cleaned them, and he was able to make my carpets look like new. He got out several difficult stains that had been there for some time. He also cleaned my family room sofa making it look better than it has for some time. I strongly recommend Captain Squeegee for any of the services he provides. I didn't need his pressure washing service this year, but I will certainly have him do that at my home next year, as he has shown me that he takes great pride in his work, and does everything he does well. I thank the Captain for multiple jobs all well done!"

SABINO ELECTRIC

"We had Sabino Electric come out to check an electrical problem we had at the end of last year (see earlier review). We were very impressed with the service we received and asked for an estimate for work we needed done. The estimate was very reasonable and we called him back a couple of weeks later to schedule the work. We again, were extremely impressed with Sabino Electric. Mr. Sabino and his helper were prompt, professional and very neat in their work. It can be challenging doing work in an old townhouse and they ran into some minor problems which caused the job take longer than anticipated. They handled the situation good naturedly and professionally. We have recommended Sabino Electric to several of our friends. We would not hesitate to call him again should we need additional electrical work. <br />"

"Everything went very smoothly.  Installers helped move the large furniture from the rooms and replaced items when done.  They did a beautiful job and everything looked as good as I had anticipated if not better.  Ken, the owner, was here several times.  He came out and measured and came out as the work was being done.  His suggestions for carpeting were great.  I originally wanted sculptured carpet but could not find the colors I wanted.  He suggested what was put down and I could not be happier with it."

"We purchased an 1880's era row home in downtown Lancaster. It had been rental property for many years and needed a lot of restoration. We'd had Lancaster Contracting do the roof last year, and asked for a quote on restoring the second floor porch this year. The porch itself had seen years and years of neglect. It was literally rotting off the side of the building! <br /> They came and gave us a very reasonable quote (we'd had 2 other competing quotes done that just seemed like triage, instead of restoration). We accepted their quote and they went to work. They literally stripped the entire structure down to the original hand-hewed oak timbers  -- the skeleton of the structure, which was still in good shape -- and rebuilt the porch from the beams up.  <br /> The project was a complete success, and we're thrilled with our porch! <br /> The team from Lancaster Contracting was great  - professional, friendly, responsive, considerate, and their work was wonderful. They had to remove the entire original porch - which runs across the back and down the side of our house - and replace the floor and underside of the porch, the porch ceiling, the supports, the railings, the screens, the door, the ceiling fixtures, ornamentation, everything - and we couldn't be happier with the results. Their attention to detail was amazing, and their prices are fair. They were flexible with changes that came up during the project, and were very responsive to questions throughout the process. We felt sad when the project was completed, because they felt like family! Of course, with this being a 130+ year old home, we'll be having them back for more projects. <br /> We would recommend Lancaster Contracting wholeheartedly, for any roofing, construction, or restoration project - interior, exterior, residential, or commercial."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Harrisburg, PA

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
