"Old pocket doors repair. Excellent work on both doors, and worked very well around my renters' work schedule. Pretty much within the estimate except that the technician didn't have the correct equipment to shave down adoor to make room for carpet. Ergo, he had to make a separate appointment to shave down the door. That's the only reason my rating is a 4 versus 5. Overall, an excellent job."

Small jobs welcome

Mustang Home Services was founded on a lifetime of service, hard work, and earning trust the right way.\nAfter 27 years in the United States Navy, our founder retired as a Chief Warrant Officer, having worked his way up from the most junior enlisted rank. That journey shaped everything Mustang Home Services stands for—discipline, accountability, and respect for the people you serve. Nothing was handed over; every milestone was earned through consistency, leadership, and getting the job done right.\nThe name Mustang is a nod to that path. In the Navy, a Mustang is someone who rises through the enlisted ranks and earns a commission—someone who understands the work at every level and leads by example. That same mindset drives how we serve our customers today: hands‑on, knowledgeable, and committed to excellence without shortcuts.\nAfter spending most of a military career moving from duty station to duty station, we made the decision to finally put down roots and call Virginia Beach home. "Ryan's Repair Service was great!  They contacted me first by email and when I had not responded they contacted me by telephone.  Due to my hectic schedule it was hard to find a good day, especially with the weather being so undependable. But their receptionist (she was so polite and professional) worked with me until we came up with a good date for both of us.  Mr. Ryan came in the rain and waited until rain stopped and clean the gutters and then he power washed the sliding on the house.  He got it all done before Christmas 2013.  I couldn't have been more pleased with the service they provided.  Ryan Repair Service did an excellent job, with professionalism and courtesy. <br />"

"My handyman had my old screens rescreened by Screen Makers but didn't tell them that I had cats. These screens were easy for the animals to push out of the tracks due to a too small spline (?). Also, the screens were coming out f the frames at the top. There is a division of opinion regarding whether the cats were climbing the screens and that was the cause. <br /> When Screen Makers were contacted about my displeasure with the screens (which were less than two years old and had been very expensive, in spite of the fact that new screening was put into the old frames), Gabe came out promptly, gave me a very good estimate for totally new screens (especially compared to what the handyman had charged me) and didn't charge for labor. He said they would be ready in 10 days and would not pull out of the new frames.  <br /> Gabe arrived to change out the screens exactly when he said he would, worked hard and completed putting up the new screens in several hours (there are more than  a dozen screens on my porch; they are about eight feet tall and several feet wide). He charged exactly the amount of the estimate. Gabe is friendly and professional. All in all, I couldn't have had a better experience (unless I had know about his company and gone directly to him the first time!) <br />"

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Norfolk, VA

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
