"We used Radon Abatement Services for our basement. The radon levels were slightly over the EPA recommended limit. We mitigated the radon as part of a larger basement renovation. Radon Abatement Services worked with our General Contractor and did a great job. Radon levels are vastly reduced now as a result of their work."

Customers say: Quick response

"After my basement test come back with significantly elevated radon, I contacted radon abatement services at the recommendation of a neighbor. A day and a half later, they were on site. While performing the initial walk through, the experienced and thoughtful professionals adapted their plan to utilize my sump pump. This was an effective strategy as it addressed the main source of radon and concealed the system in completely unfinished space. I just received my post mitigation radon results, and the system is working phenomenally. To sum it up, I was blown away by the responsiveness, thoughtfulness, and reasonableness and can't say enough positive things about this company. I don't ever post reviews, but in this circumstance I absolutely had to."

"Purchased a Groupon for this service. Was able to schedule an appointment very quickly. Crew calls about 30 minutes before they arrive at the location, which was perfect for my schedule that day. They arrived early, one cleaned the wood-burning stove and the other checked the flue. Took about 30 minutes total. Left the house as clean as when they arrived.

"I've used Floodbusters twice in the last two years. The first time they came out and sealed a crack in my utility room to exposed concrete. The job was solid, but the sealant they used looked a bit sloppy. I called and the same week they came out and painted over it. Now it looks good! This was in 2019. This past February 2020 I had them come out again, this time they had to remove drywall to access where the crack was. Two different men came out then the first time. They did a pretty good job. All I need now is for my drywall to be replaced and another successful job will have been done and in the books. I really appreciate this company and highly recommend!"

"Travon explained the process in detail. This includes the EPA regulations, containment of the work area, what we would have access to during the work, treatment of the HVAC system, air scrubber use, construction of a decontamination chamber and airlock, sealing the exposed floor after the mastic removal, and waste material bagging, sealing, and disposing. Education was important. Travon made flooring recommendations to avert future mold problems. There were plenty of places they could have cut and sealed tiles but chose to do the detailed work to remove the tile, mastic and seal the area. The job was done efficiently and the surrounding area was cleaner than before the work started. Protect the Investment’s quote was higher than the competitors but it was well worth it, knowing that they took the extra effort to assure there were no scraps of asbestos that would be exposed in the future and for a job exceptionally well done. I am extremely pleased with the services performed."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Anacostia, DC

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
