"Quality work with a lifetime guarantee on no cracks and a dry basement. I originally had a problem with the way an employee explained the warranty to me. She indicated that it was void because I had not contacted the company within 30 of my brother's death. However, a spokesperson from the company today told me that that was incorrect information. They are restoring the lifetime warranty in my name at no charge. I am pleased with how they handled my complaint."

"We hired Doerrfeld Solutions to paint most of our interior walls on the main floor of our home. I worked primarily with Jon. Jon was very responsive and helpful whenever I had questions. We were very pleased with the painting job they did for us. It looks amazing!! They did end up having to delay the job by one and a half days, but they worked extra time to get it completed in the time they told us. Overall, I would absolutely recommend them in the future and I would hire them again. <br />"

"Project involved cutting into basement floor to connect bathroom fixtures to sewer line, removal of existing walls and framing the bathroom and family room space, all plumbing and electrical.  Ceramic tile installed in bathroom, drywall and paint, plumbing and electrical fixtures.  Entire project met local and state codes.  Licensed bonded electricians and plumbers were subcontracted.  Budget was adhered to and all work was completed to satisfaction, meeting and exceeding expectations.  I would recommend this contractor."

"Mr. Tallman came and gave me an estimate of what it would entail to do the job and the amount it was likely to cost.  He gave me different options of what he could do to fix the problems.  He was very professional and prompt.  He was quik to do the repairs and clean up the job site when finished.  He finished the main portion of the work faster than anticipated, so I had him do other minor repairs around my home. <br /> I thought his price was very fair."

"When first contacted for a bid on the work, Done Done Services was prompt in providing the estimate. Initially my elderly Mother-in-Law did not want to deal with moving out furniture and elected to do the minimum necessary to repair the damage. Once the work began, however, it was evident that more work needed to be done to correctly repair the damage. Pat Freilinger, the owner, and the assigned workman, Chris, convinced my Mother-in-Law that they should do what was necessary to do the job right. In the end Chris did a fantastic job removing wall paper in the entire room, repairing plaster, sealing cracks, and painting the room. The work was done on a timely basis and the end result was fantastic. Both Chris and Pat kept us informed of the progress and Chris helped my Mother-in-Law put the room back together when all of the work was finished. I would not hesitate to recommend Done Done Services for similar work."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Anamosa, IA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
