"Wonderful experience! He was always professional and very pleasant. He fixed, repaired, installed and improved so many things in my house that had been waiting for years for someone like him. My house is an antique school house with plenty of quirks, but Harold was never a nay-sayer like so many handymen. He respected the homeowner's ideas, and knew how to make things work. He did everything with a smile and never stressed. I will always appreciate the improvements, and will hire Harold whenever I need cosmetic or remodeling work."

"I renewed my memership with Angie's List and looked for chimney repairers I needed one near Jamstown, Ny.
I called Exteriors by Maria and talked to a Mr. Robert Russo he happened to be doing a chimney job that same day only a few miles from my house. He said, he could stop by after his job and look at the chimney it was the same thing as the job he was just on...
Mr. Robert Russo fixed my chimney with  fiberglass stucco the next day.
It took him and his crew only four hours to put the fiberglass stucco on from top to bottom on my chimney..
He said when I get home from work  the chimney will be done he delivered on his promise....
The cost  was $1000 it was much better than having the chimney completely ripped up and replaced for probably $7000 and up.
The fierglass stucco hardened after 48 hours and my chimney looks better than it ever did....
He had a booklet  showing other jobs he had done from floor tiles, roofing, gutter drains, windows replacements his crew are the complete package for housing needs from the roof to the foundation....
I will call him for other household repairs down the road....
He works all over  from Buffalo,NY,Ohio and Jamestown NY and other places...
Thank you ....Mr.Robert Russo from Exteriors by MariaRepair chimney....

"Great experience! Concrete project of new steps and a patio turned out better than I expected. Jason had good ideas about how to solve troublesome drainage issues. The best is that the project came in on budget!"

"Chuck and crew installed a stair rail for us— it was our first experience with them but I hope it won’t be our last. The railing was complicated so it took longer than anticipated but turned out beautifully. I’m sure they had extra expenses but they didn’t charge extra. The crew is so respectful and accommodating. Definitely a good experience."

"The three projects Sola-R took on this fall were all done quickly, thoroughly, and affordably. All three involved structures over 150 years old, the renovations of which always demand more innovativeness and flexibility than newer buildings generally require. Also, two buildings involved had families living in them, the schedules and comings and goings of which this contractor adjusted to very well. Moreover, Sola-R accommodated his schedule and methods to the occasional limits of construction materials availability and health and safety precautions related to the COVID pandemic. I refer friends and neighbors to this contractor regularly."

"I love working with these guys! Fred and I talk about what I want done, he gives me options and we go from there. He can see the bigger picture, and is helpful in figuring out what we should do first- so we don’t have to un-do something we did last year. He is frugal and careful. If I have a problem at the house he usually can come over pretty quickly to take a look, or repair something. He has a lot of experience and a good crew."

"Matt responded promptly to all my questions regarding the job, he also replyed quickly, or in a reasonable time, to my calls and texts. Communication was mutually respectful, and his character proved to be polite, personable, hardworking and honest, prompt, neat and organized. He impressed me as a skillfull roofer, who is also knowledgable in many areas of home building and repair. He is a very ethical tradesperson. All of my questions were answered in a respectful manner, with detaill and clarity; he had the job assessed, started and funished within a short time. Matt did an expert job in a reasonable amount of time for an affordable price, and he left a clean work area. I'm very satisified with Matt's work. I highly recommend him for asphalt roof repairs."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Ancram, NY

A pro can set an attic ladder in two to four hours, including framing adjustments and finish work. Complex installs—like cutting a brand-new opening or trimming joists—land toward the high end of that window. Tackle the job yourself and plan on a full day, plus an extra pair of hands, since one mis-measurement can slow everything down.

Local building codes drive this decision. If your ceiling has a fire-rating requirement, the ladder must match it to maintain that protective barrier. A rated unit slows flame spread between the attic and living space, buying valuable evacuation time and limiting damage.

Because codes vary by city and even by neighborhood, check with the permitting office or ask your contractor before you order the ladder.

Aluminum ladders are light, rust-proof, and easy to maneuver, making them a practical choice for most households. Wood models handle higher weight loads and can match traditional trim if aesthetics top your list, but they’re heavier and need occasional upkeep.

Compare the ladder’s duty rating, your ceiling height, and how often you’ll use it. The best option is the one that balances safety, convenience, and the look you want without stretching the budget.
