"Wow just so nice David came out way sooner than we expected called first and was prompt in his estimated time to arrive. Upon arrival quickly did the job until the water flowed freely again. And upon getting the bill was pleasantly surprised that it was as expected. Fully expecting the typical "other fees" or more time than what was really at the home. SO very happy with them highly recommend them and if you are so fortunate to have David expect a nice competent man. Thank you.!! P.S. yesterday had "Router Rooter" and the same job they quoted $535. ouch ....."

"Straight Flush Plumbing to the rescue. We had a toilet that would overfill from time to time. I gave them a call to fix the problem. They tried for what seemed like hours, they finally had to remove the toilet to discover the problem. They were great to work with and the bill was very affordable, especially since it took a lot longer than expected. I can highly recommend them. They were friendly and professional from the initial phone contact to the completion of the job. I couldn't be more pleased."

"He came in and was very professional from the start. Told me how much it would be to unclog the drain but then I added in a few things. He did some quick calculations gave me an estimate and when I agreed to the price he went to the hardware storeand came right back. After the job was complete he gave me my final price and it was 15 dollars less than his estimate. The work was done quickly and I am very pleased with the quality."

"This company is awesome. We called them Friday Late morning and he gave me a price right on the phone. The price was very reasonable. I asked if he could possibly accommodate us for that day since the homeowner is elderly and it would be a hardship for the toilet to be out of commission. He moved his entire schedule around and drove all the way to Terra Bella to make sure the job was done that day. He did not even add an emergency service fee or a fuel fee. He was so good we had him install our new toilet for a nominal additional charge and we could not be happier. They were very professional, courteous, and pleasant, not to mention quick. I would recommend them to my family, friends, and anyone else who needs a plumber. <br />"

"The company was recommended by a flooring company that I trust. I called them one morning and, after I had initially scheduled their first available appointment for a day or two later, the plumber (Scott) was able to come by later the same day. The plumber evaluated the work, discussed cost-performance tradeoffs for the leaking valves and sink drain accessories, purchased the parts, and installed them and connected the sink and faucet. The work was completed in about 2 hours (including the time taken to buy parts). The system so far has been problem-free. The plumber worked very efficiently and was always helpful and courteous. He also was happy to take a few minutes (at no charge) to explain to me how to take care of some minor plumbing connection and repair issues on my own, as well as to give rough estimates for some larger plumbing work I was considering. <br /> The charge was on a time-and-materials basis, at $85/hr for labor. I don’t know if this is a typical labor rate, so I didn’t provide a rating for price. <br />"

"I had been shopping around for quite some time for new roofing.  I met Will and he was great to work with.  From the first day he was organized and ready to listen to my ideas.  He did estimates on several options for roofing.  Together we decided on metal due to pricing and durability.  Project was started and completed within timeframe and cost was right in line.  Finished project is beautiful.  Next is the paint job, and yes I'll be calling Will's Rocks for the job! <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Arcata, CA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
