"Oscar and his team were great. They gave an estimate less than a day after I requested a quote and came to do the work within a week. They were on time, professional, and did great work. My project was to install window sills and upgrade closet hardware. I am very happy with the result and would definitely hire them again."

"This was a small job, only about 3 cubic yards of gravel needed, However, Joey did a superb job, professional and flawless. He was as serious about getting it done right as he would be with a much bigger project. He arrived when he said he would and finished well within the time he projected. I would highly recommend his services. "

"Rather a large project (started out at $20k and we added on some additional work for $10k more). Rotting railroad tie retaining walls (previous owner several decades earlier) removed and replaced with 2-3 man basalt rocks (300-800lb). Steps put also put into a retaining wall going to a patio. Large, well executed operation with the ability to put big rocks in tight places/structures. Estimate was on target along with communication/time expected. Work done August 2018 and is holding up like it was just installed."
Our employees' experiences in Rockery, enables them to present immense artistry through the finished wall. Each rock with its gentle curves and flat even front, are machine-set like a jigsaw puzzle.

"I contacted Smaller Deliveries to deliver 2 different sizes of gravel so I could rebase my driveway and add a smaller layer. This is the first time I've done a project like this. Mark was always responsive with phone calls. The first day, William brought the larger rock and gave me a helpful bit of pro advice which was spot on. He was able to do a great job spreading gravel with the truck. My driveway is circular and hilly. I had 2 loads and he made our day much less labor intensive. The second day, Mark brought the smaller rock, and also was an artist with his ability to get much of the gravel spread along the driveway. Both days were much less work and now I have a very nice gravel driveway. As a side note, I rented a plate compacter, and that is such a game changer for the end product. I will use Smaller Deliveries for future projects, they are friendly and provide great service."

"Jerrod the owner of Archstone was emphatic to point out that he is one of the best if not the best and a very conscientious and honest man. He said the mortar on exterior house wall is very hard and can't be ground out. Per his expert advise the best things is pressure wash and scrape out loose and damaged mortar and use sponging technique to fill in cavities with type S mortar. I understood and agreed asking for care with pressure washer. Quote was $2922 before tax. He said the wall wouldn't look much better than it does now but he would get all the places having egregious deterioration and then seal. Two days work. Moving forward his team (him and a 18 year old nephew) came and went in less than 4 hours. Sealant remained to be done and I could see that cost was itemized at $400. I personally could do it in 1/2 hour so I asked him to scratch it from the price. He was very amenable to that. The issue arose when I was sealing I found and sent him photos of spots with severe erosion that were missed and should take about 1 hour to fix. Some on wall, one in bottom corner of house, one big seam in windowsill. I sent email and photos asking for him to return. He didn't reply. 1 week later I reached him by phone and he said he didn't get the email/or hadn't read it yet but he wasn't going to come back for 'pinholes' which I could do myself. First of all I could do everything myself but that's time that I paid him for. He is too busy to come. Photos are from the south wall as discussed."

"We needed a company who had the knowledge and skill to handle this project. We also needed professional advice on product and types of fabrication options. We interviewed several potential providers. There was no comparison between Orca and everyone else. Orca did everything agreed upon and all was done perfectly. The team was professional, courteous, and timely. The fabrication work was just beautifully done with exceptional skill. From the owner, to the office staff, to the installation crew, every single Orca person was great to work with - knowledgeable, helpful, and skilled. Orca is our only choice for this type of work in the future."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Auburn, WA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
