"Midwest Lightscapes is not the most inexpensive option, but it is tough to imagine a better one.  And despite the higher price point, you will still feel like you are getting value. <br /> Bud and Jane are efficient and professional.  They provide a full "at dusk" demonstration of the lighting plan based on the design they architect with you.  Their lighting scheme for your home is smart, beautiful, even revelatory, and the lighting equipment they install is gorgeous and of very high quality.  Outstanding on all accounts.  We were supremely satisfied and would recommend Midwest Lightscapes to anyone interested. <br />"

"The store was very helpful and gave us plenty of samples for decision making. The ordering process was quick and easy as Genesee had the best price around. They came out to measure with a highly sophisticated computer system. They worked well with us on the intricacies of the job. Install was fast and it looks terrific. We got a follow up phone call and letter to ensure our satisfaction."

"<p>Mat was very prompt in contacting us. Provided great deign ideas. We talked to 4 other providers - none of whom provided good plans.  Our project was a challenge. We had cut down a big area of weed trees and scrub. That left essentially a marshy /wet terrain. His plan has elevated to land, provided  improved drainage and an attractive landscape. So far a  dozen new trees are taking root.  Can't tell you how excited we are to have a new back yard.    </p> <p>Matt is very good at keeping in touch with details and work schedules. We recommend him to anyone with a </p> <p>project that requires knowledge of trees, terrain, and esthetics.   Although we collaborated with Matt- in retrospect we  probably would have a great result had we just turned all the decision making over to him. </p> <p>Can't say enough nice things about the process and result. </p> <br />"

"The work was done almost 2 years ago and is holding up without any issues. It was done in the timeframe promised, done professionally and the finishing was excellent. I had flooring installed and developed an issue due to the installation. Both the owner and site leader recently came out and inspected the system to ensure there was no issue with the drain (there wasn't). This type of customer service is rare these days. I am very happy I had the system installed and appreciate the professionalism I have encountered with this company from the estimate, work, finishing and follow-up. Thank you!!"

"Distinctive worked with Anderson Brothers Pools to install the hardscape/paver patio around our pool in 2018. The work was phenomenal and looked amazing. We had a very small area of settling in one spot by the edge of the pool. Paul had his crew come out and fix the minor issue, no charge this past week. It looks good as new. A++ to a bunch of real pros, would work with them again in an instant."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Detroit, MI

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
