"Although pricey, the work from start to finish was as professional as I had expected. The carpenter was on time each day, communicated very clearly with me, and did a wonderful job. The electrician, plumber, and painter (plus others) took great care to make everything safe up to code, and look and work wonderfully."

"Very well. It started with the estimate visit by Ron. Unlike other contractors, he showed me just the necessary amount of work. For example, others told me my lally columns would need to be replaced and he showed me that the rust was superficial. That saved me hundreds of dollars. When they got there on time, the crew was obviously experienced and worked well with me and with each other. They worked efficiently, were very nice and cleaned up after themselves - inside and outside. They did little extras for me such as prying up a specialty floor tile to preserve it and fill in a channel which had been cut into the basement floor previously. I felt no hesitation to ask questions, which is kind of rare in work crews. They said the job would take 2 days and it took about 1.5 days. Another extra was I needed 2 new basement windows. 3 had been replaced previously and Ron took the time to order identical windows so all 5 windows would match. That was nice. All this for a reasonable price. I highly recommend B-Sure!"

"The remodel of the bathroom was the most extensive job and the most rewarding. He did a great job, he had his young helper finish a part of the window remodel and used iron nails and they got rusty before the paint got on them but other than that it was a great project, I bought all my supplies, with Wes telling me specifically what I needed and where to get it. This way I was able to get very high end tub, tile and sink and know it was quality and the kind I really wanted. <br />"

"Excellent. Mike was very professional, worked diligently, and did repairs to our satisfaction. He was easy to discuss issues with as regards what needed to be done. Cleaned area when finished with work. Very pleased with the job done and would hire again."

"This is a great company to work with. Our project involved tricky design and construction issues and was complicated by the fact that there were certain elements that we were determined not to change. Upscale worked with us to develop a vision and a specific plan - from the major elements down to the trim - and implemented it beautifully. There were a few problems with subcontractors and we were so appreciative that Upscale held them to account for high quality work -- we did not have to complain, Upscale insisted that the work be done right. For high quality, detail and service oriented work we wholeheartedly recommend Upscale Remodeling!"

"They are expensive.  It is a difficult basement and we had while we were living out of the country and they did a phenomenal job.  Their product is really good.  The perimeter system I really working like a charm.  We were going to have them cover the basement walls, they had several products and we had priced them out.  My husband didn’t like the look of their products, so he wanted to see what a general contractor would do because we had tubs that needed to come down and other things that this company will not do.  Their price was okay but I would still have to hire a contractor anyways to do some other work so we did not go with them, but there was so much to do that it made sense to hire a contractor do it all.  They are really good and I would highly recommend Wilcox for basement waterproofing.  The system they put in is an expensive system but it is worth the money.  Their answers to our problems were the best answers.  They were extremely professional.  It is an expensive system but for my house, which is an older house this was the best option to do.  There could be less expensive ways to waterproof your basement but their system works for us.  I can’t compare them with anybody else price-wise because they are the only ones that do this system around here.  Their system solved the problem and solved it permanently.  After having spent $12000 on mold remediation, this system was something I was personally willing to spend money for so that it never happens again. "

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Aurora, NY

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
