"Lisa is a genius! With creativity and precision, she maximized every nook and cranny of our tiny 1906 cottage and brought it into the 21st century, while maintaining its original charm and character. Our "new" home is so much more functional now, and a delight to live and work in. Lisa took the lead on our projects (kitchen, bathroom, basement), but Adam is equally savvy. Both are fantastic listeners, brainstormers, collaborators, total professionals and all-around lovely human beings. We highly recommend Christie Architecture, and look forward to working with them again in the future!"

"I had waited six weeks for a competing roofer to show up to give me a bid, a written copy of which I am still waiting for. That competitor did not want me on the roof with him (I have some balance problems and wanted to check the gutters while someone was there). He told me not only the flashing around the chimneys of the house and shed needed repair, but the shingles were loose and needed to be taken up and then renailed down. He estimated $250.00 for this. Sam returned my voice mail request the same day I called him. He came by to inspect the following day, which was a Saturday. I had set my own ladder, and he had no objections to my being on the roof the same time. He said all the house (and later the shed) chimney flashings needed was a bit of caulk. I asked about the shingles being loose. He seemed surprised and said they were just fine. (I had been told they could be lifted easily they were so loose, and they could not be lifted nor were they loose on either the house or shed.) Sam caulked the flashings immediately. On the shed, he noted that when the new roof had been put on (shortly before I purchased the place) the installers had not caulked the corners of the flashing, which is where the water was entering. He caulked those and all the seams, then took a look at a couple of vent pipes and caulked those too. I asked if he would take a check, he said he would if he was charging me, but he would not charge for this. I protested that I was drawing on his expertise, and on a Saturday, but he was firm in his refusal, saying his work today was Neighborly. Trusted friends of mine, who had needed their entire roof redone after our bad winter, had recommended Sam to me, and thank goodness they did. Sam in now my "roof guy" and I will certainly recommend him in future to anyone who asks."

"It went beautifully from start to finish. Excellent product choices, and quot;cut aboveand quot; decor recommendations and complete satisfaction with his work. We consider Rafael a craftsman, rather than a carpenter. People often slow their vehicles to take in the beauty of our and quot;magicand quot; cottage -style home. We often recommend him as a qualified, detail-oriented builder.. <br />"

"They did a real good job. They were real professional. We can now open the garage door from the inside of the house and now it is so smooth that we have to check to see if we hit the button to open it or close it.  Before we used to know when it was opening or closing because it used to make a noise. It helps when you move to a city where you are new. "

"Working with Green Rising Construction is fantastic.  Owner, Robin Wengert, is professional, talented, honest, and believes in making his clients happy.  ** First Project - For my experience with my entry way front door - Robin worked with me to come up with a design plan that exceeded my expectations.  His craftsmanship is flawless.  My entry hall originally had glass blocks in the wall about 6" away from the trim on the front door.  They have always bothered me, as the look was incomplete.  Robin designed a surround for the front door and glass blocks that is a solid framework and makes the entry way appear as one piece.  He even gave my front door a little "facelift" by applying some of the stain to it, that he had used on the framework.  It is that extra attention to detail which I so appreciate.  My entry hall is a piece of artwork now and I've received numerous compliments on how spectacular and warm it now appears.  ** Second Project - I have always wanted an area for working on my crafts.  Since my previous experience with Green Rising Construction was so positive, I called upon Robin to lend his expertise in creating a craft area in my family room.  Up until that point I had shelves and tables piled high with sewing, scrapbooking and rubber stamping projects.  Having everything laying out in that manner does not make for an inviting workspace.  Robin assisted me in purchasing cabinets and countertops, and he then created an inviting workspace for me that allows me to "hide" my projects and supplies when I'm not working on them - and it affords me so much more counterspace for working on my craft projects.  The results are amazing, and I'm truly thrilled. In the past I had worked with a different contractor, and I was not pleased with the experience.  I felt we were misled and that we weren't treated honestly or fairly.  However, working with Green Rising Construction was wonderful, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a contractor.  Robin Wengert has an excellent work ethic, which is a trait that I highly value.  His high standards are evident in his work.  He is honest and easy to work with.  His design work is creative and he has the ability to look at a project from several aspects in order to present his clients with workable options.  Although my projects were what I would consider to be small, Robin treated us with respect and demonstrated that we were valued for our business.  He helped to make two areas of my home more beautiful and liveable and I am truly grateful.  I will continue to use Green Rising Construction for all of my future home needs - and I hope you will too!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Baker City, OR

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
