"Remodeling our kitchen was an interesting experience and we were very happy with the result. Since first day Jess was very helpful and transparent with the information we needed and was always available for any question we might had. He and his team did everything to make the experience as smooth and efficient as possible. It only took 2 weeks to complete the remodeling and they were very professional and always on time with the schedule."

"We ordered about 28 Gorell windows from them for a remodel.  The second floor was completely rebuilt so we had both new construction and replacement windows.  The salesman was very nice, but maybe not so experienced.  He had our blueprint plans to work with, but missed the fact that we needed tempered glass or impact window over the tub to meet code.  He definitely should have known this.  Also, in some places we put 2 windows side by side which requires a mullion (the piece that goes between them to anchor them together).  We got the runaround when we tried to get the mullions from them.  Couldn't get a straight answer out of them, they kind of tried to act like it was something the installer should get and they didn't have them, then they changed their tune and got them for us.

All in all, we're happy with the windows, just not the company.  Unreturned calls, mistakes, etc.   I'd say if you buy windows from them, let your contractor deal with them and make sure the order is right and complete.

"They guy came over and did a look over his work and he said he was busy and he would schedule it, no problem it wasn't super rushed out and he came by the one day and I asked him and he said it was a two-sided house and he said, "I'll get the first side done and will probably do the second side the second day." By the end of the first day he wasn't even half way done with the first side. He does good work and I even had a couple of other people look at it and comment on it. What happen was the previous owner had used indoor paint and painted and so the water soaked into it and the wood was rotting from the inside and I had that wall replaced. The pros was he did a good job so far and it was really nice work, people talked about it, he did work and I wouldn't stand by him the whole day. he had a worker with him the first time and the second time he had a worker and on Sunday he come by himself and he went down and he got to paint for. The paint matched perfect and it was great. The work was real good. The cons, the first day he gets there and so he had already looked at it, so we really knew what he was up against and he says, 'Well, do you have a ladder?" He said we need a 26 ft. because we need to get up there and so we went to a store and he comes up to me and says, you've got to pay for the ladder. And I'm like, "Is this how you present yourself?" So that was just another $100 for the ladder and I don't think I had to buy the tools. So that was one, and then when he was working he said two weekends and then another three to four weeks he had to come back and do the other side. He left a mess too. He took all the boards and he left them on the side of the house, it had all the hard paper behind it and he left a pile whole over. So I had to take care of that myself, my neighbor actually helped me with that and took care of everything. If you you want good work he does good work, he is expensive even with the deal. he took 15 or 16 hours one weekend and another it was like twenty something hours the first weekend but he took the first four hours off. So it took a long time to do a job that should have been done a lot quicker. I don't think I would hire him again partly because he does good work but he takes too long and I had to pay for the ladder. He is very professional, he is very good and he knows what he is doing."

"It was fine. The original design didn’t meet my needs based on the information I provided them. However, they revised the plans which worked out better for me. They were able to get the first draft to me pretty quickly."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Balm, FL

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
