"I cannot speak highly enough of Tom and Brad Green of Colonial Restorations. We have lived in our antique house for 16 years now, and like most old homes, some of its previous repairs were good, some not so good. Tom Green worked on this house for its previous owners, and his work was, by far, the best in the house. So, we continued to use Colonial - Tom, then Tom and Brad - as we learned the ropes about caring for an old house - our first house, old or new. Over the years, they have replaced sills and posts and beams, and rebuilt parts of our loose stone foundation. Most recently, they replaced the last original posts in our basement, (one of which was a tree trunk still with bark on it), including pouring new custom footings, in advance of our finally cementing the dirt floor. The work here is never easy - nothing is level, nothing is square - but the Greens' end result has always been beautiful - strong and made to last. Their prices are fair and without hidden costs....maybe not the lowest bid you might get, but you know it's a real bid that they will stand behind. They triage projects for us, giving us an idea of what other items will likely need attention in the next few years. We're not done with this house yet....we've never won the lottery, and there's always another repair..... and plan to use them again soon. I feel confident knowing that the next owners of this house, whoever they might be, will see the quality of the work and know that we cared enough to have the right people help us with the ongoing repair and maintenance of a 275+ year old house. I am a real person, a real customer, with no ties to the company, and was more than happy to write this review."

"I have now had 4 pickups from this company. Each time it has been with different items: I have had my kitchen remodeled,  a deck torn down and rebuilt, a new roof put on, old fencing disc arded, and a yard cleanup. The only difference in pricing was for the roofing and even though ti was more money it was STILL CHEAPER than a dumpster!!! I don't know how these guys do it, but they pickup on time, without issue andfor the cost quoted. I have turned each of my contractors onto them - now they are using them. SO MUCH cheaper and better service than any dumpster company I have used!"

"Our experience with Kitchen Options was a mixed bag but the results are amazing.  We love the look of the cabinets and the installers did everything professionally.
I would pass on a few concerns to anyone considering this deal.  First, as part of their pitch, the sales people emphasized that the measuring tech and the installer would be one in the same.  This wasn't the case with us and no explanation was given.  In more complicated jobs, this could be an issue.
We were given an estimate of 4 to 5 days for our job to be completed.  I knew, with our small kitchen, that it would likely take less time.  Our installers were done in one day.  Part of me thinks this inflated labor estimate was factored in to offset the discount.  Hopefully future customers will keep this in mind.
Potential users of this deal should also be aware that the discount goes away if the estimate isn't accepted with downpayment made on the spot.  I didn't like the idea of committing right there with the sales people standing in my kitchen, particularly with a project of this expense.  My advise would be to get several estimates and bring Kitchen Options/Angies List in last.  This way you will have all the information you need prior to your decision.
There is no arguing with the results, however.  The kitchen came out exactly as promised.  The tech who did the measurements even caught an off-center cabinet opening that needed correcting.  The installers were fast, clean and thorough.

"Mr Gomes and his team did a great job. He gave us a detailed quote which listed everything that was included and the items we needed to cover ourselves. The work he did included: - Demo entire bathroom, including a massive Jacuzzi tub - Move plumbing to new configuration - New electrical wiring and outlets - Sheetrock and cement board - Tile walls and floor. Paint walls and trim. - Install electric heated floor - Build two partial walls - Install vanity, tub, toilet - Install ceiling fan, lights, mirrors, towel warmer, wall heater, recirculating water pump - Build a full hight closet There were a few delays waiting for inspectors. Mr Gomes and his subcontractors were always on time. He was juggling other jobs, but was always able to get his guys to our project when they needed to be there. They did work a Saturday to stay on track. Every worker that Mr Gomes brought into our house was competent, friendly and hard-working. The subcontractors he used were long-time business partners, they obviously had a very good relationship. Each crew member was courteous and very conscious that the project was disruptive to us. They went above and beyond what was in our contract. They handled lots of little details that we didn't even think of. The work was performed with great care and our bathroom is beautiful. Mr Gomes is the BEST contractor we have ever worked with and will get all future jobs from us."

FAQs for arbor, pergola or trellis custom build projects in Barre, MA

Pergolas and gazebos are both outdoor structures, but there are differences between the two. A pergola has a slatted roof that allows partial sunlight to filter through, creating a light and airy space. In contrast, a gazebo features a solid roof that provides complete shade. This key difference influences the comfort and visual appeal of your outdoor space.

Prefabricated pergola kits require one to four hours of assembly, while custom pergola designs take an average of eight to 16 hours. Additional groundwork, such as pouring a concrete slab, leveling the site, and removing obstructions, may extend the installation process to several weeks, ensuring a secure and long-lasting build.

A standard pergola kit ships with everything you need—four support posts, rafters, top runners, support beams, and hardware for anchoring the frame to a concrete pad. Many manufacturers also bundle add-ons like retractable canopies, privacy screens, or modular sections that let you tweak the footprint. Because each part is pre-cut and labeled, the kit helps you—or your contractor—assemble a sturdy, attractive structure without extra trips to the hardware store.
